The Female Internship Programme

 

The Female Internship Programme is a learning opportunity aimed at attracting young and talented candidates across the globe. The programme will provide selected candidates with the opportunity to supplement their academic knowledge with a practical work assignment in a field related to the work of WFP. This will promote better understanding of WFP Somalia’s mandate and programmes. Similarly, the programme will provide WFP with qualified individuals specializing in relevant fields in line with WFP’s Strategic Objectives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

 

WFP’s  activities include food assistance for relief, school feeding, safety nets, nutrition and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers. You will be part of a dynamic team that effectively identifies, monitors, evaluates, and manages the organization’s strategic, operational,  and financial risks in support of WFP’s country strategic plan for Somalia.

 

This position is open to qualified Somali female nationals.

What will you do?

 

Under the guidance and supervision of the National Logistics Officer, the intern will be required to undertake the following:

 

  • Assist and monitor retailer’s performance in the implementation of their activities for Cash Based Transfers (CBT).
  • Carry out retailer monitoring and shop visits to assess the retailer’s adherence to the Retailers Code of Conduct.
  • Assist in the follow-up of any complaints from the Beneficiary Hotlines and retailers and provide feedback.
  • Assist in the monitoring of market prices, checking the availability of commodities, food quality, food expiry dates and general hygiene at retailer shops.
  • Assist in the capacity building and training of retailers in the use of Point-of-Sale machines.
  • Assist retailers in checking their transactions and the correct uploading of reports. Ensure that all transactions sent by retailers have been correctly uploaded in the system and provide feedback to retailers.
  • Keep a clear inventory of all retailers Point of Sale machines in use.
  • Support on E-commerce and ensure all retailers across the country are registered on the WFP e-shop application.
  • Train Retailers and Beneficiaries on the use of the WFP e-shop Application.
  • Provide support to logistics operations and activities to ensure the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.
  • Provide assistance during operational planning and monthly food dispatches from the warehouse.
  • Assist in the capturing receipt of commodities in the corporate information system.
  • Support with the warehouse team to ensure no discrepancies exist between the physical and systems stocks.
  • Maintain filing systems and archives for easy retrieval of information.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Do you meet the minimum requirements?

 

The Internship Programme is open to Somali female candidates who meet the following criteria: 

 

  • Completed an undergraduate or graduate degree programme (e.g., a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree) at a recognized university in the area of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Statistics, /or other relevant field or/and with a great interest for Logistics work.
  • Candidates must have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in the last 12 months.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English and Somali
