The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate is to promote and protect durable solutions to conflict and displacement affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 250 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2022 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

About the job

Under the management of the GBV Manager, in close cooperation with GBV team members, the GBV Assistant will be 100% field based and will provide SGBV case management and counselling interventions, and conduct emotional support groups with women, girls and survivors of gender-based violence. The GBV Assistant will support the adequate implementation and coordination of DRC’s protection objectives and activities.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Provide counselling to GBV survivors and refer to case management services when needed;
  • File and store GBV data in the gender-based violence information management systems (GBVIMS and GBVIMS+) in compliance with the information sharing protocol developed at the inter-agency level;
  • Provide emotional support group sessions to women and girls at risk of or survivors of gender-based violence in compliance with best-practice and DRC’s guidelines;
  • Conduct awareness raising to encourage help-seeking behavior of GBV survivors
  • Disseminate action-oriented, specific, inclusive, and supportive messaging on available services for GBV survivors
  • Make referrals for health care and multidisciplinary range of services for GVB survivors
  • Assess and map available services for GBV survivors
  • Provide targeted assistance for urgent needs of GBV survivors
  • Provide information to survivors of and women and girls vulnerable to GBV
  • Assist the GBV officer and GBV Manager in the implementation of GBV program activities

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have Bachelor in Social work, Counseling, Psychology or any other related field. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • 1-2 years of experience working in the field of prevention and response to GBV;
  • Knowledge of GBV, child protection and PSS basic principles;
  • Demonstrated experience in working on women's protection such as empowerment programs, reproductive health, counseling, etc.
  • Previous experience in working with communities, running GBV prevention curricula, raising awareness and providing services in shelters and village settings.
  • Good communication and psychosocial first aid skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluency English, Ukrainian and Russian.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the negative impacts of early marriage on the individual, family and community level;
  • Knowledge of the negative impacts of child labor on child development;
  • Knowledge about basic reproductive health;
  • Commitment to achieve gender equality and end all forms of Gender Based Violence
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel.
  • Understanding of operational context in East Ukraine.

Contract length: 3 months renewable depending on performance and funding.
