Mission and objectives

GLOWA fights against human trafficking and the damage it creates in our communities throughout the Northwest region of Cameroon through community education to prevent trafficking, support for victims, and advocacy on their behalf. Through these works, GLOWA aims to nurture a culture of respect for human rights, particularly those of children and women, in the region and fight against the systematic abuses faced by the most vulnerable.

Context

The North West and South West Regions of Cameroon have been in an armed conflict since 2017. The military of the Republic of Cameroon has been fighting with a multiplicity of Non State Armed Groups (NSAG) from Southern Cameroon that calls itself the Ambazonian Restoration Forces. The NSAGs control a good number of rural communities and benefits from huge solidarity and support from the local population. The non-state armed forces imposed a boycott of institutions of the republic of Cameroon resulting in the closure of many rural schools and health facilities. In respond to the increasing control of rural communities by the NSAGs government created military barracks in communities where the army did not have any presence. Conflict related sexual violence from these opposing camps has resulted to a growing number of pregnancies and delivery of children born of war. Children born of war and their mothers have been systematically abused especially by individuals who have themselves been targeted either by the military of the non-states armed groups. Our project aims at empowering these victims of conflict related sexual violence through income generating activities and increased community education to change perceptions of them

Task description

The UN Trust Fund to end Violence Against Women recently call for grants proposal which is available from the following link; https://untf.unwomen.org/en/grant-giving/call-for-proposals. In respond to this call, GLOWA is soliciting the support of 2 online volunteers to develop a proposal targeting Women who have become single mothers as a result of conflict related sexual violence. These single mothers and their children have been regarded by both sides of the conflict as adversaries and targeted for physical violence. Victims of conflict related sexual violence in Cameroon and their children have been hated and abused because of the activities of combatants who got them pregnant. Our project hopes to engage community based mechanism to change community perceptions of these women and their children which advocating with opposing parties in the conflict to see them as the victims that they really are
