The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking to fill a post of Librarian (Grade 6P) in the Library Section of the Division for Knowledge Management and Information Management, Academic Outreach and WTO Chairs Programme (KMD).

THIS IS A TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT FOR A DURATION OF 6 MONTHS.

General Functions

Under the supervision of the Head of the WTO Library, the incumbent will undertake the following responsibilities:

1. Create records for Library assets by copy cataloguing.

2. Either:

a. undertake a feasibility study to identify whether and, if so, to what extent / for which resource types copy cataloguing could be automated and how;

AND/OR

b. participate in the elaboration of Knowledge Management guidelines.

3. Assist in the provision of reference services to Members, Secretariat and public by researching for the materials and providing appropriate information.

4. Assist in other information management related tasks as necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Advanced university degree in information management/library science/computer science/knowledge management related field, or a basic university degree plus a qualification in this field recognized by a professional body that is equivalent to an advanced university degree.

Knowledge and skills

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

Demonstrated knowledge of and professional experience in copy cataloguing and the analysis and description of information materials according to internationally recognized standards.

Knowledge of and experience in process automation &/or Knowledge Management implementation / policy. Proven research capability.

Expert command and use of information technology relevant to information organization and retrieval.

Behavioural Skills:

The incumbent must have the capability to relate to and build relationships with colleagues; communicate and understand clear factual information; present technical facts to knowledgeable specialised audiences; and work as a member of a team, relating to others, but working independently to achieve his/her objectives.

Work Experience

At least two years of relevant professional experience undertaking the above or similar functions.

Languages

Proficient level of English (oral and written) including the ability to draft concisely. A good working knowledge of French or Spanish would be an asset.
