POSITION TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS CONSULTANT

DEPARTMENT: SSA

SCOPE OF WORK: KENYA, CAMEROON AND DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO TheInternationalPotatoCenter(CIP)seeksaqualifiedcandidatetoserveasaCommunicationsConsultant

under the Tools4SeedSystems The overall purpose of the project: Tools4SeedSystems: working towards resilience through root, tuber and banana (RTB) crops in humanitarian settings is to enhance the effectiveness and appropriateness of USAID BHA’s agricultural programming investments in countries with RTB agri-food systems to achieve food security and resilience goals. The project is implemented by the International Potato Center in collaboration with the International InstituteofTropical Agriculture, Allianceof Bioversityand CIAT, Wageningen University andResearch and University of Florida. The scope is global, with two countries (Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon) targeted for the first 12 months. The purpose will be achieved by assessing existing interventions and needs, providing advanced trainings and technical support in partnership with local training institutionsto private and public-sectorstakeholders for seedvaluechains of RTB crops.Learning networkswillbepromotedutilizingrecentresearchoutputsandguidelinesforinvestments,planning,and policy. A communication plan and French and English communication outputs are required targeting different audiences.

Specifically, the consultant will:

• Develop and implement a bilingual and multimedia communications action plan for strategically promoting application of Tools4SeedSystems Toolbox and use of information by implementing partners in humanitarian contexts

• Coordinate with project team members in preparation of French and English case studies which synthesize findings from use of Tools4SeedSystems Toolbox in humanitarian settings • Coordinate and prepare blogs using storytelling techniques to capture and transmit the essence of the project findings (in French and English) for different field activities, learning networks and virtual events

• Coordinate collection, collation (& meta data) of photos of project activities and upload to CIP photo archive

• Collaboration on communication inputs for other related communication activities, e.g., e- learning modules, on-line virtual training course

• Coordinate preparation & compilation of progress and technical reports and prepare summaryof key achievements of the project.Deliverables

• Develop a communication action plan.

• Prepare multi-media toolkit for promoting use of tools in humanitarian contexts. • Contribute on the mid-year project progress report for donor.

• Report on the implementation of communication action plan (including photo archive). • Publish two case studies with blogs

• Prepare a final project report for donor

Qualifications/Special Skills

• MSc in Communication.

• Minimum 6 years of experience in developing and delivering communications plans. • Effective virtual communication tools, social media, communicating science. • Good report writing and communication skills.

• Fluent in English and French (both written and oral) is a must.

• Willingness to travel to Cameroon and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Expected duration and conditions

• Consultancy contract will be for 50 days.
