Background

Internship Office Background

Established in Seoul in 2022 with support from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family of the Republic of Korea, the UN Women Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality the Centre seeks to function as a ‘knowledge hub’ to facilitate research, education & training, sharing of innovations and lessons learned, networking, and development of multi-stakeholder partnerships for the achievement of gender equality in the Asia-Pacific region. The Centre aims to contribute to operationalizing normative frameworks on gender equality and the empowerment of women, informing innovative approaches to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”), transforming harmful social norms in the fast-changing and unique social landscape of Asia and the Pacific, and forging partnerships across sectors. In 2023, the centre will implement a full-scale programme with various partnerships building activities, as well as research, policy dialogue, and gender training activities.

UN WOMEN Centre of Excellence offers a small group of outstanding final year undergraduate and graduate students, the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UN WOMEN’s work and gain technical knowledge and experience in the Centre's various activities. The Centre’s working language is English; and it offers an international working environment.

The internship will offer multi-faceted experience of deepening one’s knowledge on both administrative and gender issues and building the professional experience with practical skills on office operation, communications and events organization for UN WOMEN, along with exposure to an international and regional network of UN WOMEN’s work. It will also provide exciting communication and collaboration opportunities with UN WOMEN's local stakeholders as well as with overseas UN WOMEN offices. This internship experience will strengthen the candidate’s core skills for any career in the future. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist and support to office operations and programme activities

  • Maintenance of the Centre’s calendar, contact list, arrangement of appointments and meetings. Maintenance of protocol procedures;
  • Screening of incoming calls and correspondence; arranging world-wide telephone and video conferences;
  • Preparation of informal translations/interpretation;
  • Coordination of the information flow in the office and arrangement of on/off-line team meetings;
  • Organization of workshops and conferences in coordination with other staff; support for international participants’ travel and logistics matters;
  • Provision of technical support in development/maintenance of digital platforms/social media channels where requested.
  • Provision of wide range of support on administration/programme activities. 
  • Preparation of financial and accounting documents;
  • Administration of supply and assets management;

Required Skills and Experience

Education

The intern must have studies in public/business administration, economics, finance, or other subject relevant to this position, at the university level.

Meet one of the following:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent)
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation; or
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and Korean are required;

IT skills

  • Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools;
  • Knowledge and skills of Adobe products e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator would be an asset

Renumeration

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
