  1. Organizational Setting

 

The post is located in the Hague Development and Promotion Section (HDPS), The Hague Registry, Brands and Designs Sector. HDPS is responsible for the geographical and business development of the Hague System so as to ensure its global positioning as the System of choice for designs to be protected internationally. HDPS is also responsible for providing information to users of the Hague System through various media including the Hague website. This Section is charged with fostering and supporting new accession initiatives, enhancing the implementation of the Hague System in the existing membership, and seeking its wider and better use.

 

  1. Purpose Statement

 

The incumbent, as the Senior Information Officer, is responsible for developing advanced information/promotional outreach materials; drafting and overseeing the Hague website content; planning and developing information & promotion strategies and action plans; communicating with Hague end-users groups in key markets; delivering lectures and making presentations on the Hague System to a variety of audiences; conducting business analytics and facilitating in pre/post-accession discussions with potential and current contracting parties.

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Head of the HDPS.

 

 

2.      Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties\:

 

a.   Identify public information needs and outreach opportunities; plan and develop information & promotion strategies, action plans, and related initiatives in collaboration with internal partners to ensure effective and widespread implementation of promotional objectives; evaluate the effectiveness of approaches to reach intended audiences.

 

b.   Develop a variety of informational/promotional/outreach materials using a range of media for users, potential users, and other concerned groups; plan and oversee the maintenance of publicly accessible information materials; write content for websites, including the Hague Success Stories.

 

c.   Establish and maintain effective working relations and communication channels with key stakeholders to elicit support for and maximize the impact of outreach activities; build information networks with potential members.

 

d.   Develop training materials; organize and conduct training workshops and courses on the Hague System; provide advice and assistance to new partners, and tailor information/training to meet their requirements.

 

e.   Represent the Organization at national, regional, and international meetings and conferences; deliver lectures and make presentations to various audiences on the activities of the work program.

 

f.    Conduct research on specific topics; design survey and data collection methods, analyze and interpret data, and provide statistical support.

 

g.   Assist in pre-accession discussions with the potential contracting parties, interpreting and disseminating the policy, providing procedural advice; coordinating the pre/post-accession training.

 

h.   Perform other related tasks as required.

 

 

3.      Requirements

 

Education (Essential)

Advanced university degree in communications, international relations, law or other relevant disciplines. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

 

Experience (Essential)

At least seven years of professional work experience in public information, intellectual property or a related field.

 

Experience in producing information/outreach materials and managing social media.

 

Language (Essential)

Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English.

 

Language (Desirable)

Knowledge of other languages of practical relevance to support the Hague System users.

 

Job Related Competencies (Essential)

Thorough understanding of the Hague System as well as international industrial designs examination rules and regulations.

 

Excellent English drafting skills.

 

Excellent presentation skills and capability of conducting training.

5.      Information

 

Annual salary\:

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment.  Please note that this estimate is for information only.  The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice.  The figures quoted below are based on the November 2022 rate of 78.6%.

Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.

Temporary appointment are renewable, subject to continuing needs, availability of budget and satisfactory performance with a maximum cumulative length of two years.
