Job Description: Intensive Case Management Intern
LOCATION: 208 Commerce Place, 4th Floor, Elizabeth, NJ 07201
TIME COMMITMENT: Interns: at least 2 days per week (Jan-May, May-Aug, Aug-Dec) 
(Please note that is an unpaid internship opportunity.)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist clients with HMO enrollment and changes and applications for Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income.
Setup PCP and specialist appointments for clients and, when necessary, accompany clients to appointments.
Teach clients how to use Logisticare, NJ’s health transportation system for Medicaid recipients.
Help clients prepare and understand forms and paperwork.
Provide translation and interpretation when necessary.
Assist staff with sorting and filing of documents and case files and enter case notes in an online database.
 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The student will learn about refugee resettlement issues and processes, especially refugee health and mental health, and gain experience working directly with refugee/asylee clients.
The student will gain an understanding of the US healthcare system, including patient rights and responsibilities, mental health services, and Medicaid/HMOs.
The student will gain an understanding of NJ social services, and learn how these services apply to refugee populations.
