Purpose  

Vi Agroforestry were founded by the Swedish cooperative movement with the overall objective to work in the principles of non-discrimination, meaningful participation, accountability, transparency, empowerment and continues learning. Vi Agroforestry work for a world free from poverty and injustice and we know from experience that people are stronger together.  

For a long time Vi AGroforestry and We Effect have shared resources for areas a management support and fundraising. As per February 2023 Vi Agroforestry will work as an indivudal organiation with its own staff and resources. New and revised Vi AGroforestry will consist of 14 employees in Stockholm and around 30 employees in East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda).

The purpose of this position is to support the organization to reach the overall objective of Vi Agroforestry through ensuring that Vi-Agroforestry is a global, competent and robust organisation with strategic financial, compliance and communication management and systems.   

This role Director for Manamgement Support will have four employees reporting - a Controller, Finance/HR Officer and two Communication Officers (one focusing on marketing campaings and advocay and one focusing on social media and web). Several tasks will be outsourced to external partners - and the collaboration and follow up on outsourced tasks will be key. 

This role works in close cooperation with all departments 

this role reports to the Secretary General and will be a memeber in the Management Group. 

Main responsibilities 

  • Responsible for overall management of the management support department and its projects and activities.  

  • Provide strategic guidance to and ensure development of strategy and policy document.  

  • Strategically responsible for the department’s thematical expertise 

  • Ensure thematic support to the global organisation and external counterparts.  

  • Strategically responsible for the organisation’s strengthened capacity.  

  • Responsible for development and implementation of the department’s budget and work plan and for staff at the department.  

  • Responsible to provide active leadership in line with the values of the organisations. 

  • Responsible to ensure a healthy work environment at the workplace.  

  • Responsible to ensure that all department staff adhere to the Code of Conduct and actively work with anti-corruption. 

  • Participate actively in the Management Group and contribute to strategic development of the organisation. Share responsibility in delivering the organisation’s strategy and vison.  

  • Represent the organisation externally to build strong relationships and networks relevant for the organisation. 

Required qualifications 

  • Relevant degree at university level or equivalent knowledge required in other ways. 

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a management position. 

  • Knowledge and experience from work with finanancial, compliance and communication. 

  • A good understanding of Human Resource Management 

  • Strong communication skills in Swedish and English, both written and spoken 

Merits 

  • Experience of working with management systems and knowledge of ISO 9001. 

  • An additional language  

  • Experience of development cooperation donor relations, especially Sida and EU 

  • Experience from working with civil society, preferably in a development cooperation context.  

  • Interest in and knowledge of agroforestry, climate change, biodiversity and environment.
