The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing the Infrastructure for Tomorrow—infrastructure with sustainability at its core. We began operations in Beijing in January 2016 and have since grown to 106 approved members worldwide. We are capitalized up to USD100 billion and Triple-A-rated by the major international credit rating agencies. Working with partners, AIIB meets clients’ needs by unlocking new capital and investing in infrastructure that is green, technology-enabled and promotes regional connectivity. 

 

The Senior Economist will join the Economics Department to build up research related to climate and environment, advance AIIB's thought leadership in this area and inform AIIB’s operations.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Initiate, conceptualize and conduct research for climate change and environment (with relevant insights for AIIB’s development priorities)
  • Support policy formulation and/or investment strategy in AIIB with relevant climate or environment economics insights, working closely with the Strategy and Policy Department
  • Support the development of the department, and other, Bank publications
  • Building a network of external collaborations to expand AIIB’s capacity

 

Requirements:

 

  • Advanced university degree, preferably a Ph.D., in economics. Candidate is expected to have a good track record of research, including quantitative work, on climate change, biodiversity, environment and related fields.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant professional experience. Good knowledge of climate change policies in various international financial institutions would be welcomed.
  • Strong people skills and ability to work with a diverse multi-cultural team.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English.
  • Candidates with a track record of working in international organizations or international think tanks on similar functions, will be preferred.
