The incumbent of this post reports to the Head, Refugee Registration and Eligibility Services.

Responsibilities

In coordination with other colleagues in the Division, receives, checks, processes and responds to requests to verify registration status of Palestine refugees seeking asylum outside UNRWA’s fields of operation based on standard operating procedures, confirming compliance with UNRWA’s Registration Verification Manual, and ensuring the authentication of all related information and documents.

Analyses information on received requests stored in UNRWA’s Registration Verification Database and produces regular reports and presentations for internal planning and external communication purposes.

Identifies, assesses and reports challenges faced by Palestine refugees in accessing civil registration and identity documents inside and outside UNRWA’s fields of operation.

Analyses information on legal status and respective documentation of registered Palestine refugees as stored in UNRWA’s Refugee Registration Information System, and produces regular reports and presentations for internal planning and external communication purposes.

Analyses population figures and previous periodical statistical reports on the trends and movement of refugee population.

Contributes to the development of strategies and innovative methods to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of registration verification operations.

Education

An advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in international law, demography, social statistics, social sciences, history, international affairs.

Work Experience

At least three years of relevant work experience in humanitarian protection, academic research, refugee registration and/or demographic/population data management and refugees rights work in a large governmental or international organization is required

Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, a candidate for an international posts must have at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport, or a national identity number, is required.

Knowledge of the status of Palestine refugees in international law is desirable

Languages

Good command of written and spoken English is required
Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

Type of Contract and duration: 2 years, with the possibility of further extension.
