OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The mission of WHO's UHC/Healthier Populations Division is to contribute to reducing health inequalities and reducing preventable disease and injury caused by environmental, social and economic determinants of health. This is achieved through a coordinated inter-sectoral approach aimed at enabling all people to enjoy better health and well-being, in line with the Organization's 13th General Programme of Work (GPW13) and the Sustainable Development Goals. Within the HEP Division, the Department of Social Determinants of Health (SDH) leads WHO's efforts on addressing the social, physical and economic conditions that impact upon health, by compiling and disseminating evidence on what works to address these determinants, building capacity and advocating for more action. The Department supports Member States and other partners to address violence and unintentional injuries, foster healthy ageing and improve equity and well-being. This will be facilitated through cross-cutting initiatives on improving urban health, addressing economic determinants, and developing strategic frameworks and evidence-based policies.Within the SDH Department, the Unit on Demographic Change and Healthy Ageing (DHA) leads WHO's multisectoral and multi-stakeholder collaboration to improve the social and physical environments that are responsive to demographic change and foster healthy ageing. The main areas of focus are on:

1) Supporting voice and community engagement;
2) Connecting diverse stakeholders and partnering across sectors;
3) Developing evidence, norms and standards;
4) Building capacity and multisectoral leadership;
5) Developing multisectoral policy;
6) Global advocacy.

The Unit coordinates, with the Unit for Ageing and Health, the work on the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing notably the Secretariat for the Decade.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. Provide input into the work programme on demographic change and healthy ageing in Headquarters and assist the Head of Unit in its successful implementation with a specific focus on the impact on underrepresented populations and leave no one behind.

2. Serve as a technical resource concerning demographic change and healthy ageing in the country(ies) in areas of expertise responding to inquiries and providing detailed and technical information as needed.

3. Undertake research on demographic change and healthy ageing to facilitate the development and implementation of the programmes and activities.

4. Provide advice on knowledge management related to healthy ageing, with a specific focus on web-based tools and digital mechanisms.

5. Develop work plans and budgets related to the Decade knowledge Platform that are responsive to stakeholder needs, including follow up on the implementation of planned activities under your responsibility. This includes procurement of goods and services, information technology needs, and internal service requirements.

6. Support the content review process for the Decade Platform, including a community of reviewers, in accordance with the living Platform review Guidelines, which will need to be revised as required.

7. Support Decade related communications and advocacy in line with the Decade Branding Guidelines and the living Communication Guidelines, which will need to be revised as required.

8. Support other team related communication and advocacy opportunities drawing on relevant guidelines.

9. Conduct data analyses, web analytics, and collect user feedback on stakeholders' experiences of the Decade Platform and other DHA websites and propose revisions and upgrades based on this intelligence.

10. Develop and manage the capacity building on knowledge related to the use of the Decade Platform.

11. Advocate, coordinate, and build partnerships with technical departments at HQ, regional and national counterparts, and development partners (UN, CSO and bilateral) to support the development and use of the Decade Platform Support the development of knowledge generation activities and innovations such as grand challenges or prizes.

12. Support the Decade Secretariat functions specifically related to communication, advocacy and events, including planning, implementation and monitoring of planned activities under responsibility.

13. Manage the DHA Unit website in liaison with SDH and DCO communication staff.

14. Manage other digital Platforms linked to the work of the Unit including Age-Friendly World.

15. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: First level university degree in ageing, gerontology or related field relevant to the position.

Desirable: An advanced university degree in communications, website management or information and communications technology or related field relevant to the position.

Experience

Essential: A minimum of five years’ experience working in the area of ageing and web-based communication and knowledge management.

Desirable: Experience working in an international organization.
Experience in designing and managing digital Platforms ideally on Sitefinity CMS.

Skills

1. Strong knowledge in gerontology or ageing
2. Concrete skills in website design, management, and monitoring.
3. Demonstrated understanding of knowledge management
4. Concrete skills in working with a range of communication tools including social media and analytics tools
5. Knowledge on Sitefinity or similar content management systems.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,692 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4347 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
