Terms of Reference

1. General Background

The Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) sits within UNHCR’s Division of External Relations (DER) and is responsible for mobilizing resources and other forms of support from the private sector. UNHCR has developed a Private Sector Partnerships Strategy with the overall goal of raising $1 billion annually from the private sector by 2025, engaging 25 million supporters, and broadening engagement with corporations and foundations beyond fundraising. Within PSP, the Corporate Partnerships Unit, based in Geneva and Copenhagen, plays a multi-faceted role in managing specific accounts and supporting PSP markets with their corporate engagement. This includes supporting the PSP network in engaging with business to provide expertise, to develop or make accessible products and services that refugees need, to raise awareness, to advocate for refugee rights, and to generate cost savings for the organization, among others.

2. Purpose and Scope of Assignment

Under the supervision of the Senior Private Partnerships Officer, the incumbent will play an essential role in supporting corporate partnership development and growth. S/he will:

• Lead on the engagement with a portfolio of partners, ensuring that they are leveraged to their full potential, and partner requirements are fulfilled, while assessing the continued benefit of the partnership(s) to UNHCR;
• Respond to all queries about these partnerships, providing input and briefing notes, as required;
• Maximize visibility opportunities for UNHCR and make recommendations to PSP management in this regard when requested;
• Ensure that records on relationships are accurate and up-to-date on Salesforce, and capture all relevant information and communications with donors;
• Ensure that all accounts under management are thoroughly vetted through UNHCR’s due diligence process;
• Participate in and organize high-profile events attended by existing and potential partners to expand networking opportunities and/or as part of cultivation or stewardship plans;
• Upon request, support colleagues in the PSP network in establishing non-financial components of partnerships when warranted, for the purposes of partner growth and loyalty;
• Facilitate peer-to-peer learning opportunities to strengthen UNHCR’s overall capacity and expertise on private sector partnerships;
• Perform any other related duties that may be required.

3. Qualifications and Experience

a. Education

A university degree (BA) in business, marketing, international relations, development, political science or a related discipline.

b. Work Experience

Required

• At least 6 years’ of demonstrated progressive professional experience in partnership management, new business development, sales, marketing and/or fundraising (5 years with graduate degree equivalent of a Masters and 4 years with Doctorate equivalent of a PhD) in a not-for-profit organization;
• A combination of non-profit and corporate experience is a plus;
• Experience with developing and implementing private sector engagement plans or strategies;
• Experience in managing high-level meetings and events;
• Experience in coordinating multiple stakeholders, both internal and external;
• Experience in understanding how to reconcile different needs and interests and negotiate for mutually beneficial outcomes;
• Experience in developing products for private sector audiences, including writing and editing letters, proposals, appeals, reports, acknowledgements, briefings, and any other products targeting private sector entities;
• Experience in explaining complex issues to external audiences in an appealing and concise manner.

Desired

• Experience in an international environment;
• Experience within the UN system or an INGO;
• Experience in an organization/function promoting refugees’ socio-economic inclusion, e.g. business, social enterprise or NGO promoting refugee employment and/or entrepreneurship.

5. Location and Conditions

The successful candidate will be based in the UN City in Copenhagen, Denmark.

This position is initially up to the end of the year. It is a full-time role starting from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).

This vacancy is open for applicants residing in Denmark as well as for those residents of other countries. The remuneration level and the applicable entitlements and benefits may be different based on the residence of the most suitable selected candidate.
