Assistant – Driver

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals, for the position of ‘Driver”to support transport activities in ICRISAT Development Centre under the Global Research Program Resilient Farm and Food Systems (GRP-RF&FS). The incumbent will be based at ICRISAT, Patancheru, Hyderabad, India.

ICRISAT is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. Covering 6.5 million square kilometers of land in 55 countries, the semi- arid or dryland tropics has over 2 billion people and 644 million of these are the poorest of the poor. The Institute focuses its work on the drylands and in protecting the environment. Tropical dryland areas are usually seen as resource-poor and perennially beset by shocks such as drought, thereby trapping dryland communities in poverty and hunger and making them dependent on external aid. Responsibilities:

·Provide driving services for driving official vehicles for department staff/visitors to travel to on-site/on-farm locations, transportation of farm equipment and attend meetings at different project locations and workshops.

·Monitor the vehicle conditions and perform checks before travel and indenting for vehicle maintenance required.

·Providing necessary support to the travelers and officers during travel and workshops.

·Provide support to the office administrative functions and maintenance of vehicle repairs, fuel records and vehicle logbooks.

·Understanding state, national and international organization rules and regulations for safe driving

·Ensure that the vehicles are roadworthy, insured and meets the official requirements and documentation of national government.

·Provide good driving skills during travel and following safety guidelines.

Requirements:

·School Level Certificate (SSLC or 10th class)

·A minimum of 5 years’ experience in driving light and heavy vehicles with a valid driving license of light and heavy motor vehicles.

·Good tracking record of safely driving vehicles, experience in general office administration and basic mechanical/handyman skills.

·Good communication skills in English (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with staff and visitors.

·Client oriented approach high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact, integrity and the ability to work with multi-cultural people.

General:

This is a contractual position for a period of 12 months.
