Mission and objectives

The UN Global Compact Network Italy (UNGCN Italy) was established with the primary purpose of contributing to the development of the UN Global Compact in Italy, an initiative for the promotion of a culture of corporate citizenship fostered and managed by the United Nations on a global scale. The mission of the UNGCN Italy is articulated in 7 points. In accordance with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact (UNGC), the Network aims to: be recognized as an institutional spokesperson that allows companies engaged in sustainability in a multi-stakeholder perspective to be heard; raise awareness and the level of national involvement; help make sustainability the main lever of change in pursuit of a future that is more efficient, more equitable and safer in the management of resources; be characterized as a subject oriented towards the development of operational solutions and the creation of shared economic, social and environmental values; encourage partnerships, collective actions and dialogue among all actors in the promotion of sustainability; promote accountability, fairness and transparency in communication and corporate reporting; endorse the contribution of Italian companies and synergies at international level.

Context

The Communication on Progress (CoP) is the annual public disclosure by participanting companies of the UN Global Compact on how they are upholding and implementing the Ten Principles and the SDGs, which aim is to strenghten accountability regarding the performance of UNGC participants and promote continued learning. UNGC launched in 2022 its new enhanced CoP, that will be introduced starting from 2023 for all participants (more than 16.000). As a matter of fact, the CoP was revised in order to adapt it to the evolving reporting landscape and to allow stakeholder access to relevant and comparable corporate data. Therefore, the guidebook specifies the rationale behind each question, calculation guidance and mention of related reporting standards.

Task description

The new enhanced UN Global Compact Communication on Progress (CoP) comprises of 2 elements: an online questionnaire and a statement by the CEO. The Online Volunteer should support UNGCNI with the translation into Italian of the Guidebook related to the new CoP (all the documents related to the CoP, included the Guidebook are available for download at this page: https://www.unglobalcompact.org/participation/report/cop). Such translation will help Italian participating companies (nearly 500) better understand the questions as well as the context and to align their data collection and disclosure to the most widespread reporting frameworks. Companies will eventually improve their transparency and accountability towards UNGC 10 Principles and the SDGs.
