The Education Officer, part of the Multi-Service Community Center (MSCC) project, will be responsible for the delivery and monitoring of quality education services in the assigned locations of community centers and informal settlements with technical oversight and support of partner activities and implementation in Akkar. He/She will work closely with the Field Education Manager, and Monitoring and Evaluation team. The position will be under the supervision of the Field Education Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

Implementation of the MSCC Project:

  • In coordination with partner staff, prepare and follow up on monthly activity plan in accordance with project goals.
  • Ensure deliverables and targets are met in coordination with field Education Manager and implementing partner to ensure high-quality education is provided.
  • Monitor community centers to make sure they are well equipped and respond to quality education standards.
  • Monitor implementation and progress of the project according to the objectives, proposal, workplan, and budget whilst closely coordinating with M&E team, Field Education manager and partner.
  • Coordinate with EDU Technical Manager on curriculum, schedule, and report on gaps with recommendations for corrective measures.
  • Advise on proposed new centers’ locations, design, furniture, and other needed teaching/learning materials.
  • Work in coordination with IRC’s ECD, CP and Health departments to ensure the integration of services.
  • Establish and maintain productive work relationships and coordinate activities with other education sector organizations.
  • Ensure that children with disabilities enrolled in the program will benefit from specialized assessments, services and individual assistive devices based on need.
  • Attend and effectively contribute to education working group in Akkar.
  • Any other task as assigned by the Education team serving the project overall.

Technical support to partner:

  • Organize and lead on the pre- and in-service trainings to partner staff.
  • Conduct classroom observation and mentoring sessions.
  • Follow up on the proper implementation of the MSCC Education components and teachers’ performance.
  • Identify teachers’ capacity building needs and structure with the Technical Manager professional development plan for teachers and partner’s staff when and where applicable.
  • Participate in Teachers Learning Circles (TLCs) activities.
  • Explore with partners potential capacity strengthening support, in coordination with the Technical Manager.
  • Lead timely and effective programmatic monitoring of sub-award partners, identifying appropriate follow up actions, and provide completed reports.
  • Promote partner participation in decision making with respect to the program, including any program adaption based on program data.
  • Ensure that supported partner programs abide by humanitarian principles and sector principles and standards.
  • Support the review of the performance of the partner, of the IRC, and of the partnership, including successes, challenges and lessons learned, fostering ongoing partnerships beyond the sub-award cycle.
  • Follow up with partner with continuous feedback to ensure proper qualitative performance management.

Data collection and reporting:

  • Collect data needed for monthly and quarterly reports using dedicated monitoring tools.
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports/updates as needed.
  • Ensure the quality of data collection in the assigned locations and provide feedback on challenges in data collection processes and tools.
  • In coordination with the Field Education Manager, the Education Officer will be responsible for reporting on the MSCC project in the assigned locations, where quantitative data, and success stories should be collected prior to the quarterly narrative reports.
