Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Job Purpose
This position will be recruited for R&D on mechanization and agronomy. In the first 3 years contract, he/she will be a key researcher to implement the activties under the EiA and AMD IDTs. This project aims to develop/ promote the mechanized direct seedings and rice straw based business models in Vietnam. The resesearcher will also assist the related activties for developing agricultural e-extension and EasyHarvest.
This position will be based in Can Tho Vietnam and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Vietnam.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Implementation and execution of research activities in the field of mechanization and agronomy
- Support monitoring and collecting data for the related experiments, field trials, and demonstrations
- Synthesize and verify quality of data and interpret research findings based on the defined objective
- Assist to develop guidelines, training materials on and provide capacity building for the related technologies/ practices (e.g. mechanized direct seeding, rice straw composting, etc.)
- Working closely with the project partners, e.g. Can Tho DARD, farmers, extension workers in Vietnam
- Supervise technicians to conduct the related experiments, field trials, and demonstrations
- Deliver timely reports to relevant IRRI staff
- Prepare and assure quality of research/ technical reports and data
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in mechanization or agricultural engineering or agronomy, with minimum 4 years relevant work experience or
- Master's Degree in mechanization or agricultural engineering or agronomy, with minimum 1 year relevant work experience
Skills Required
Mandatory
- Has experience contributing to agricultural research and development (e.g. projects, innovations, and products) minimum 2 years
Preferred
- Has experience contributing to agriculture – related IT and tool developments
