The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for relief, emergency school feeding, nutrition and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers.

 

This position is open to qualified Somali candidates. Female candidates in particular, are encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities.

 Follow up with stakeholders daily during vessel discharge, bagging, and dispatching to ensure the smooth running of operations.
Ensure transporters have mobilized enough trucks to uplift cargo during discharging and loading vessels.
Supervision of WFP’s time charter vessel loading and discharge operation
Ensure stevedores and the agents responsible have mobilized enough labor force to handle the cargo.
Inspect the condition of commodities upon arrival and report any discrepancies as appropriate.
Ensure the required gear for handling the discharge of commodities (cranes, bagging machines, weighing scales, etc) is available and verify unit weight and packaging according to WFP standards.
Track the movement of containers from the Port to the warehouse and ensure all shunting processes are met.
Regular coordination and interaction with customs clearing agents for timely customs clearance and dispatch from the port to the destination
Maintain filling and reporting system of all containers arriving at the port and moving to warehouses.
Assist in the management of commodity accounting data quality and integrity.
Assist in filing waybills and shipping documents, securing the file system, and keeping them orderly.
Assist to receive and cross-check stakeholders’ reports for correct data before the port operation

Assist in business support activities of the port office.
Participate in monthly physical stock count exercise.
To maintain the expected arrival sheet and share concerns on regular basis.
When required assist WFP’s operation at different warehouses in Berbera
Any other duties as requested by the supervisor

Minimum Requirements

 

Education:

 

  • Completion of Secondary School Education. A post-secondary certification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, and Warehouse Management is desirable.

 

Experience:

  • At least 4 years of experience in logistics, transport, and port operations in thehumanitarian sector. A certified first degree from a recognized university, studying in logistics, transport, or operations may be considered in lieu of the years of experience.

 

Language:

 

 

 

Knowledge & Skills:

 

Fluency in oral and written communication in English and Somali is required.

 

 

 
  • Knowledge of work routines and methods of port operations.
  • Proficient in the use of office equipment and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to identify data discrepancies and rectify problems requiring attention
  • Uses tact and courtesy to give and receive information from a wide range ofindividuals.
