In the Directorate of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications, the 5G/6G Strategic Programme Line aims to promote the integration of 5G/6G terrestrial and satellite networks, in order to achieve global seamless connectivity for the benefit of industry and society.

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship

As a Young Graduate Trainee, you will be able to contribute to many aspects of the 5G/6G Strategic Programme, including 5G/6G standardisation, outreach and business development in collaboration with industrial stakeholders. You will also be part of the ESA 5G/6G Innovation Hub and work with application and service providers to optimise their solutions to work over converged terrestrial and satellite 5G networks.

 

You will support the 5G/6G SPL (Strategic Programme Line) Manager in defining and implementing strategy, projects and activities. 
You will be responsible for supporting the SPL Manager in ensuring the timely delivery and execution of the SPL. Your post will require interaction with key industry and institutional players as well as internal stakeholders.


Your responsibilities will include: 
-    contributing to the latest research and standardisation activities related to 5G and 6G and understanding their implications and opportunities for satellite telecommunications;
-    working with application and service providers to optimise their solutions to work over converged terrestrial and satellite 5G networks;
-    developing virtual reality solutions to demonstrate their use in hybrid 5G/6G and satellite systems;
-    reviewing SPL system programmatic and technical proposals; 
-    conducting early analysis for business development activities including the technical aspects; 
-    actively cooperating in international cross-functional teams: technical, business, financial, legal and commercial.

 

You will gain hands-on experience in developing and testing end-to-end solutions in the 5G/6G Innovation Hub at ECSAT,  and will be given the opportunity to interact with industry in outreach activities to scout for companies interested in collaborating with ESA and benefiting from ESA support in the development of their 5G/6G technologies, products and solutions.

Education

You should have just completed, or be in the final year of your master’ s degree in engineering (telecommunication, satellite telecommunication) domain.

Additional requirements

You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
