Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship

As a Young Graduate Trainee, you will work with the EFM IT Systems & Digitalisation Unit on the following tasks:

  • Assist in maintaining identified best practices for security controls (e.g. network segregation, multifactor authentication);
  • Check that countermeasures are implemented as soon as possible when system-specific threats are identified (either locally or by ESA);
  • Assist in achieving compliance with operational technology (OT) system baseline requirements and the system-specific security requirements statement (SSRS)
  • Follow up on actions that would mitigate identified residual risks;
  • Assist in achieving EFM compliance with the Agency’s requirements;
  • Support the ESA data privacy and security process, ensuring that information, documentation and access are available on request;
  • Support the maintenance of the EFM cyber security documentation;
  • Assist in the processes and systems audits, including participation, root cause analysis, correction and improvement;
  • Actively assist in ensuring that:
    • privacy and security risks are controlled;
    • security controls are maintained during system changes;
    • all OT systems are effectively protected from malware;
    • the effectiveness of the restore process is periodically tested;
    • the scope and limitations of backup processes are documented and communicated to ESACERT;
    • security information and events are made available to EFM management;
    • all OT system components are regularly patched based on vendor recommendations;
    • all OT system components are regularly screened for known vulnerabilities;
    • a process for privacy and security incident management is in place.
  • Assist in maintaining the process for addressing:
    • data subject rights;
    • data protection controls;
    • the data protection principles of purpose limitation, data minimisation and data accuracy.

You should have just completed or be in the final year of your master’s degree in mathematics, engineering or computer science.

Additional requirements

  • Good knowledge of Spanish would be an advantage.

Specific competencies in the following disciplines will be considered an asset:

  • Good theoretical knowledge of operational technology (OT)
  • Experience with operational technology cyber security

 

You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team.

 

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Good knowledge of Spanish would be an advantage. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
