The Market Analysis and Business Intelligence team develops actionable evidence including market intelligence, financial analysis, socio economic impact assessments and databases, and reports on its findings to support the activities of ESA's Directorate of Telecommunications and Integration Applications.

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship

The satellite communications sector has been evolving with ever increasing speed over the last few years, largely triggered by the emergence of many New Space players from across the globe along with a surge in investment in the commercial space sector. This new era has also seen the emergence of new satcom system concepts and advanced technologies. Now more than ever, clear market information and insightful business intelligence are essential to fully understand the underlying movements, trends, initiatives, players and technology developments within the satellite telecommunications industry and beyond. With that purpose in mind, this traineeship involves market intelligence support for the Directorate.

 

As a Young Graduate Trainee, you will contribute to:
•    following developments among satellite operators, satellite manufacturers, satellite service providers and to a lesser extent, developments in the launchers, satellite Earth observation and satellite navigation markets on a daily basis;
•    analysing business trends in telecommunications and the needs of internal and external stakeholders;
•    producing concise and timely market information to inform ESA management and representatives of ESA's Member States;
•    supporting a systematic approach for the collection of market information;
•    training users of internal business intelligence tools;
•    suggesting business analysis tools to support the analysis of the changing environment;
•    collecting , analysing and disseminating socio economic impact data, looking for new and innovative ways to extract insights from large volumes of data.


Through this traineeship, you will contribute to the further transformation of the Directorate's programme and activities in response to the ongoing fundamental market changes of the 2020s.

You should have just completed or be in the final year of your master’ s degree in a technical or scientific discipline.

Additional requirements

A background in and knowledge of the space industry would be an asset, as well as experience in undertaking market research.

Specific skills in one of the following disciplines would be considered an asset:
•    Satellite telecommunication and/or telecommunication markets
•    Business intelligence
•    Data mining


You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

During the interview, your motivation and overall professional career goals will also be explored.
