ESA is an equal opportunity employer, committed to achieving diversity within the workforce and creating an inclusive working environment. We therefore welcome applications from all qualified candidates irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, beliefs, age, disability or other characteristics. Applications from women are encouraged.
This post is classified F1 on the Coordinated Organisations’ salary scale.
Location
ESTEC, Noordwijk, Netherlands
Our team and mission
The Systems Engineering Division of the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality is responsible for the following main activities:
- Providing cost engineering support, tools and estimates for ESA projects;
- Providing systems engineering support for projects in various phases of development;
- Conducting R&D activities related to systems engineering methodologies and tools;
- Managing and providing technical support for small spacecraft projects for technology demonstrations, including preparatory activities (feasibility studies, pre-developments, etc.);
- Managing and providing technical support for small projects for in-orbit technology demonstrations (instruments, payloads, etc.);
- Managing the Concurrent Design Facility (CDF) and performing Phase 0 and support activities for ESA projects.
In particular, the Cost Engineering Section provides cost engineering support, tools and estimates for ESA projects and studies, including studies conducted in the Concurrent Design Facility. The focus of the Section is preparing cost estimates and reviewing the cost estimates and financial proposals prepared by industry for projects in the early stages of definition (Phase 0, A and B1). The cost estimation process is approached from a systems engineering point of view, and is therefore more of a technical discipline than a financial or economic one.
The Section is relatively small, with a very positive team spirit. The strong support and interesting work provided to Young Graduate Trainees are of real benefit for a future career in cost engineering, systems engineering and project management.
