Our team and mission
ESA Ground Operations System Multi-Mission Generation (EGOS-MG) is an on-going project which aims to produce and deliver an integrated, ready-to-use ecosystem of mission operations applications supporting all future missions managed at ESOC. The EGOS-MG system consists of common environments which provide automated support to the complete lifecycle of ground systems (development, integration, validation and deployment). It will integrate all mission operations applications which support the complete operations life cycle (preparation, validation, planning, execution and evaluation).
You are encouraged to visit the ESA website: http://www.esa.int
Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship
As a Young Graduate Trainee, you will report directly to the EGOS-MG Project Manager. You will be involved in the technical activities related to the in-house integration and deployment of the run-time platform serving the EGOS-MG-based systems. As part of the Project team, you will help define and execute the system integration and validation activities, aiming to verify the EGOS-MG system's compliance with relevant functional and non-functional requirements. In particular, you will be asked to create and validate all necessary artefacts which will enable the automated repetition of the integration and validation process for the ground systems deployed in the operational environment serving the missions at run-time.
Your involvement in the EGOS-MG Project’s activities will provide you with an excellent opportunity to familiarise yourself with the functionality offered by mission operations applications at ESOC and with the design of the ground system that will support future missions at ESOC. This is based on mainstream off-the-shelf technologies (in particular Cloud technologies) adopted in a manner compatible with the demanding requirements of the critical systems supporting mission operations. At the end of your traineeship, you will be familiar with the main aspects of ground systems design and have gained an in-depth understanding of the processes related to their integration and validation in a highly critical operational environment.
