Our team and mission

Within the Flight Programmes Department of the ESA Directorate of Space Transportation,  the team acts as the procuring entity for the Ariane 6 Launcher System and its evolution.

In particular, the ESA Launcher System team is in charge of the technical and programmatic implementation of the Ariane 6 programmes, including Ariane 6 launcher development, its evolution through Competitiveness Improvement and Product Adaptation, the Launchers Exploitation and Accompaniment Programme (LEAP), and the overall technical coherence of Ariane at Launcher System level. The team is also in charge of assessing the Launcher System flightworthiness.

 

These tasks require easy access to technical information and the associated technical knowledge management.

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship

You will, as a Young Graduate Trainee, specify and develop a product-based technical data management tool in support of the Launcher System team engineers.

 

The tool will be aimed at providing easy access to the Launcher System technical data and associated technical memory in order to capitalise on development experience in support of subsequent exploitation and identify common technologies, material and processes applicable to other Launcher/Launch Base systems.

 

The following steps are envisaged:

 

  • Identification of the needs, mainly through interviews with the engineers in charge (functionalities, content);
  • Specification of the tool and use case definition;
  • Survey of existing tools (corporate tools, tools available on the market) and use case implementation for prototyping;
  • Development of the tool;
  • Initial enrichment of the database with relevant technical information relating to predefined technical content;
  • Coordination of the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the tool;
  • Provision of support for tool sustainability within the engineering teams.

 

Depending on development progress in relation to this task, extension of the work in support of Launcher System flightworthiness may also be envisaged.

You should have just completed, or be in the final year of your Master’ s degree in aerospace or computer science.

Additional requirements

As you will interact with the Launcher System team, flexibility and autonomy, as well as curiosity and interest in the relevant technical domains, will be assets.

You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
