Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

This position is located within the UN Women Department of Management and Administration, Office of the Security & Safety Services Section. The Security and Safety Business Continuity & Crisis Management Consultant reports directly to the UN Women Global Security Advisor. The role has a requirement for the consultant to travel to fulfil the role.

Duties and Responsibilities

In line with the UN Women Security and Safety Services Biannual Work Plan (BWP), organizational setting and available resources; the Security and Safety Business Continuity & Crisis Management Consultant whilst ensuring the continued promulgation of the UN Women mandate, will be responsible for the following:

  1.  Developing roll-out strategy for Business Continuity and Crisis Management

Deliverables: The Consultant will liaise with all appropriate units, divisions and sections internally, utilizing all available mediums and will coordinate the completion of the below:

  • Develop a roll-out strategy with education materials, communications plan, messages, target audience, channels, and a budget.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation framework for tracking the implementation of the roll-out strategy.
  • Analyse the methodology of Business Continuity and Crisis Management Application, identify best practice, identify existing gaps in the practise and identify further steps for achieving organizational resilience.
  • Identify and develop supplementary documents (such as, exercise, handouts etc.) and presentations that will accompany the roll-out.
  • Develop e-learning content/instructional material.
  • Brand the project products in line with UN Women branding guidelines.
  • Coordinate with respective counterparts (Sections/Units at HQ and in the field) the setup of customized roll-out.
  • Create a contact database for the project that is updated monthly.

2.Roll out Business Continuity and Crisis Management Application to the HQ and field offices, review existing protocols and provide assistance to the HQ and field offices to reach full compliance

 Deliverables: The Consultant will liaise with all appropriate units, divisions, and sections internally, utilizing all available mediums and will coordinate the completion of the below:

  • Roll out Business Continuity and Crisis Management Application to the stakeholders at the UN Women HQ, ROs and Cos in the field.  
  • Monitor and review the progress of offices through surveys.
  • Support offices in amending and revising the existing protocols as necessary, to adapt to country/ office specific requirements.
  • Support users to access and use the Business Continuity and Crisis Management Application.
  • Promote an open knowledge-sharing environment that builds knowledge, skills, and service for the benefit of the organisation as a whole.
  • Provide the Global Security Advisor with regular updates on the progress with implementation of the assignment.
  • Monitor, assess, and identify solutions of possible improvements of existing Business Continuity and Crisis Management Application platform.

3.Update of the UN Women Security and Safety Services Section Intranet portal, to reflect the Business Continuity and Crisis Management roll-out as a part of Security and Safety Services education curriculum

Deliverables: The Consultant will liaise with all appropriate units, divisions, and sections internally, utilizing all available mediums and will coordinate the completion of the below:

  • Update Intranet portal to reflect Business Continuity and Crisis Management roll-out, upload documents and resources.

4.Coordination with the UN Women Regional Security Specialists 

  •  Coordinate with the UN Women Regional Security Specialists to utilize the Business Continuity and Crisis Management roll-out.
  • Adapt the roll-out to the already existing trainings and education sessions that are delivered by Regional Security Specialists and share best practices.   
  • Initiate and perform outreach activities, prepare related communication materials, and makes presentations on assigned training topics/activities.

All deliverables will be completed concurrently within a 12-month timeframe.

Required Skills and Experience

University degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree) in security risk management, international relations, security information management, political science, social sciences, law, or related field. A knowledge of the United Nations Security Management System is an asset.

Knowledge of business continuity and crisis management is required.

Language:

Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
