About IRRI

Job Purpose
The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is the world’s premier research organization dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI implements the ‘Climate Smart Rice based Systems for Prosperity and Resilience in Odisha (ClimatePRO) project. This project working with several GO and NGO partners, private sector and communities, focuses on developing, testing and scaling combinations of technical, social and institutional innovations for supporting climate resilient and gender-responsive diversified rice-based systems that are remunerative for women and men farmers and contribute to enhancing their livelihoods resilience. The project has a significant focus on promoting women and youth entrepreneurship and farmer collectives like FPOs and FPCs. IRRI also implements several OneCGIAR initiatives in Odisha including on gender responsive and inclusive seed systems, gender equality and digital innovation.

This position will lead the knowledge management activities of the project under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and support the Project Leader and associated teams in knowledge management, communication, monitoring and reporting of outputs and outcomes, while managing associated partnerships. The incumbent will support the IRRI South Asia Communications Lead and the Project Coordinator in development, updating and implementation of communications plan of the project. S/he will work in close coordination with outcome leaders and other IRRI scientists to deliver the project and maximise impact on the ground.

This position will be based at Bhubaneswar, India and will be filled by the permanent residents of India.
Roles and Responsibilities
Purpose
• Lead updating the Rice-based Systems Knowledge Bank customized for Odisha gathering relevant content, convening the content management committee for validation and updating, particularly for non-paddy crops
• Lead the development of Fact sheets, brochures, short messages, jingles, power points, posters, video and audio script writing and other knowledge management material for the project in close consultation with the technical teams
• Take the lead in managing the various digital applications (e.g, Rice Doctor, RPMS) developed by IRRI and support the project coordinator to liaise with the relevant government departments to institutionalise them and scale their use
• Ensure the consistency of web elements and content with set institute standards
• Support the Project coordinator and South Asia communications lead in developing, monitoring and implementation of the project communications plan
• Take the lead in finalizing, updating and managing the project dashboard and webpage
• Manage the project documentation including data, reports pictures from the field Lead the formatting and design of project technical reports

Engagement
• Support the project coordinator in developing and managing partnerships with relevant actors for knowledge management including GOs, NGOs, CSOs and private data management, technology back end support and communication agencies
• Collaborate with IRRI research teams in Odisha and other offices to effectively implement knowledge management activities and achieve objectives
• Provide assistance and guidelines to internal and external stakeholders for the implementation of knowledge management activities, including logistics• Interact with extension agencies, NGOs and farmers to assess the accessibility and ease of understanding the information and communication material being developed
• Coordinate with required IRRI services and supplies to ensure smooth implementation of KM activities Participate in IRRI-wide activities and represent IRRI at relevant meetings and events

Delivery
• Identify graphics, pictures, recordings, videos and other digital assets that can be distributed by hypertext markup language (HTML)
• Lead the assessment, collection, organization, editing and updating database ensuring accuracy of the information
• Create database that features content in different formats while ensuring consistency of messages
• Support the project coordinator in organization of key project events like workshops, conferences, trainings (national and international) and exposure visits for capacity building of partners and key stakeholders
• Lead the participation in various exhibitions/events organized by the State Government or other partners to showcase IRRI activities, outputs, outcomes and impacts Lead the maintenance of database for efficient storage and retrieval of information
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in development communication, knowledge management, mass communication or related field with 6 years of experience Or Master’s degree in development communication, knowledge management, mass communication or related field with 3 years of experience

Experience in agricultural knowledge management and communication will be prioritised
Skills Required
Mandatory:

Proven understanding of agricultural R4D and ag systems
Experience in extracting and synthesizing relevant information and data from research outputs and gray literature and media
Strong oral and written communication skills in English
Strong operational, management, time management and analytical skills
Experience in partner Management
Have experience writing web content for diverse audiences
Experience in project management, monitoring and reporting

Preferred:
Experience working in interdisciplinary teams, transdisciplinary projects and multicultural environments
Willingness to travel


In addition to the Base Salary indicated above, IRRI also offers allowances as listed below:

Dearness Allowance: 113% of basic salary
House Rent Allowance: 40% of base salary
Transport allowance: INR 4000 per month
Educational Allowance: INR 1000/- per month per child up to two children, as applicable
Leave Traveling Allowance: Equivalent to one month of basic pay per calendar year
Provident Fund: 12% of basic pay and dearness allowance
