In Egypt, WFP is committed to supporting the Government’s priorities towards the achievement of the SDGs. WFP’s current five-year Country Strategic Plan (CSP) is designed in a way to fully support Egypt’s vision 2030 and ensure food and nutrition security for all Egyptians, as enshrined in both the Constitution and the country’s commitment to the Global Sustainable Development Agenda.

The CSP focuses on five interrelated thematic areas:

• Support and complement the Government’s social protection programs;

• Support the refugees and migrants through food assistance and resilience building;

• Improve the nutritional status of Egyptians with a focus on Pregnant and Lactating Women and infants under two years of age;

• Support resilience of vulnerable smallholder farmers and Bedouin communities in Upper Egypt and frontier Governorates; and

• Provide capacity strengthening to the Government and support South-South cooperation between Egypt and neighbouring countries.

JOB PURPOSE

  • Apply statistical theory and methods to interpret and summarize data to provide usable information to support food security and vulnerability analysis for Egypt Country Office using statistical packages like SPSS, STATA or R, the incumbent will be required to:
  • Support the planning and organization of field assessment missions, meeting and briefing sessions, and participate in rapid and comprehensive food security and market assessments as needed.
  • Apply sampling techniques or utilize complete enumeration bases to determine and define groups to be served.
  • Perform substantial data analysis and prepare a wide range of reports as needed ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control.
  • Lead and ensure accurate, timely recording of data to ensure consistency of information presented within WFP and stakeholders.
  • Liaise with internal and external counterparts to support effective collaboration, implementation and monitoring of ongoing VAM activities.
  • Provide guidance, on the job training and assistance to support staff.
  • Adapt statistical methods in order to calculate food security and vulnerability indicators using both quantitative and qualitative tools.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Evaluate source of information, prepare data for processing and check for any inaccuracies.
  • Evaluate the statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data in order to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency and accuracy.
  • Identify relationships and trends in data an provide different statistical analysis.
  • Contribute to standardizing market and price monitoring and market assessments with statistical/economic analysis.
  • Review the Country Office current practice and of market and price monitoring in terms of coverage (temporary and spatial) commodities /items, and timeliness,
  • Draft the Country Office food security and market monitoring information products
  • Recommend changes/modifications to achieve an effective price monitoring system at the CO. level.
  • Liaise with different strategic objectives managers for establishing a beneficiary data base management system, using corporate tools or other data base software.
  • Act as assigned emergency response as required, to meet emergency food assistance need.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of a university degree in (Bachelor's or equivalent) degree in Economic//econometrics, statistics, finance or any training or education in the related functional area.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the English and Arabic languages.

Experience: Seven or more years of progressive work experience in the field of statistical analysis, economics, econometrics, or any other related fields

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Fixed-term Appointment:  an appointment for a continuous period of one year and shall have a specified expiration date and be subject to a probationary period of one year, which may be extended to 18 months.

Annual Net Pay Salary:  as per the established salary scale with then the country 

Staff Assessment A staff assessment, comparable to national income tax, shall be applied to the gross salaries and such other payments as are computed on the basis of salary, The assessment shall be calculated at rates set forth in the FAO Administrative Manual.

Dependency allowances: applicable to children up to 18 years of age, or up to 21 years in full-time school attendance

United Nations Joint pension fund a deduction  of 7.9% from the pensionable remuneration will be made from the net salary, the WFP will contribute of 15.8%

Medical Insurance: mandatory for the staff member and can be extended to dependents  in a cost-sharing

Annual leave: 2.5 days a month and Sick leave: 2 days per month

Official Holiday: 10 days as officially established for each duty station
