Mission and objectives

UNAIDS BRA organization mission TBD

Context

Brazil has shown important advances in the response to HIV and AIDS, including the 95-95-95 targets, in national contexts. For example, the advancement of policies for the availability of prevention technologies, such as pre-exposure prophylaxis, has had an impact on certain population segments. Despite the positive indicators for some social groups, there are still significant gaps that need to be addressed. Some issues that impact HIV and AIDS response strategies are related to the vulnerabilities experienced by especially marginalized populations. From a Brazilian combination HIV prevention perspective, access to PrEP impacts users' lifestyles as their sexual autonomy expands. However, recent studies that analyze the profile of PrEP users in Brazil have shown that this technology has mainly reached white gay men with a high level of education. Therefore, the activities scheduled for the next year are strongly focused on creating demand through information, communication in communities on combination HIV prevention strategies, especially PrEP and PEP, with an emphasis on populations that still do not have adequate access to these technologies.
