Mission and objectives

La resolución 71/243 de la Asamblea General reposiciona el Sistema de Desarrollo de las Naciones Unidas para cumplir con la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible de manera que no deje a nadie atrás. En el centro de este proceso, y según el mandato de la resolución 72/279 de la Asamblea General, se está fortaleciendo una nueva generación de Oficinas de Coordinador Residente de las Naciones Unidas bajo el liderazgo de un Coordinador Residente de las Naciones Unidas, el representante de más alto rango del Sistema de Desarrollo de las Naciones Unidas a nivel de país, que cuenta con representación de 24 agencias, fondos, programas y organismos especializados de las Naciones Unidas. La OCR trabaja para implementar dicha reforma apoyando la coordinación del trabajo cohesivo de la ONU en Guatemala hacia la implementación de la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible.

Context

This UNV assignment is connected to the implementation of the UN Youth Strategy “Youth2030”. Over 60% of the population of Guatemala is below 30 years old, which means that youth engagement and empowerment is a cross-cutting issue in all UN interventions. RCO Guatemala supports these efforts, led by the interagency Youth Task Force headed by UNFPA. The UNV will act as youth inclusion associate, helping UNCT Guatemala to respond to the needs of the country’s youth.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Development Coordination Specialist (SARC), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Support the implementation of UN Youth Strategy “Youth2030” and the Youth Score-card; • Support to interagency Youth Task Force led by UNFPA, including the design of the 2023-2025 strategy and the 2023 annual action plan on youth; • Coordinate interactions and consultations with diverse youth; • Support research and development of communication materials on youth • Contribute to the inclusion of a youth perspective in inter-agency activities, including but not limited to the implementation of the Secretary General’s the Call to Action for Human Rights and of the United Nations Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD), and the preparation of project proposal for the Peacebuilding Fund's (PBF) Youth Promotion Initiative (YPI); • Contribute to the creation of content for development coordination (documents; briefing notes; graphic content; other). Identify sources of information and data; • Support the planning and execution of information and awareness-raising activities for diverse youth; • Participate in the organization of meetings and events convened by the RCO; • Perform other related duties as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
