WFP envisions a world with zero hunger where everyone has equal opportunities, equal access to resources and an equal voice in the decisions that shape their lives, including as individuals within households, communities and societies. The pursuit of gender equality and women’s empowerment is central to WFP’s mission of saving lives and changing lives and supporting countries in their quest to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Thorough the WFP Gender Policy 2022 WFO seeks to mainstream gender in emergency preparedness and response, resilience building and development.1 WFP’s approach to gender equality and women’s empowerment is people-centred, promoting diversity and inclusion in all contexts, and commits WFP to inclusive and representative consultation that ensures that the needs, priorities and experiences of all people are reflected in programme design. In emergency and humanitarian settings, where more than two thirds of all WFP programming is implemented, actions to advance gender equality must be guided first by humanitarian principles and the “do no harm” imperative.
