Context

The Warehouse Inventory and Management Center (WIMC) at the UNICEF Supply Division contributes to the overall objective of ensuring timely access of good quality strategic supplies for children. To bridge the time and geographic/space gaps between supply and demand, UNICEF is setting warehouses at global level as well as at the country level. WIMC is responsible for management of global warehouses and hubs, setting the global policy and guidelines on warehouse and inventory management and supports trainings on warehouse logistics. Under the general guidance and supervisor of the Supervisors Warehouse, the National UNVs are responsible for the receiving, storage, packing and loading operations in the Supply Division Warehouse in Copenhagen.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Supervisors Warehouse GS-7 or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Warehouse Assistant will: • Carries out the loading and un-loading of trucks and containers. • Carries out the receiving and put-away of shipments into the warehouse including quality control of packaging and palletization, error reporting, and rework of incoming shipments. • Supports the picking operations on Pre-pick and De-pall with a view to procedures in place to ensure high quality of packing. • Supports the packing operations on Long Lines, Mini-Load and Short Lines with a view to procedures in place to ensure high quality of packing. • Supports the loading process with a view to procedures in place to ensure high quality. • Performs general warehouse maintenance including cleaning of the warehouse and warehouse equipment. • Participates in the annual physical inventory count. • Supervision of temporary laborers at SD warehouse. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. Results/expected outputs: • As an active UNICEF team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNICEF and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: The incumbent is a critical part of the SD Warehouse team which ensures timely, accurate and efficient response to UNICEF Country programmes as well as emergency support. • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment; • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.
