Resettlement Caseworker

Job Overview:  

The caseworker is clients’ main point of contact on the resettlement team clients and provides direct Reception and Placement (RP) services to newly arrived refugees and Special Immigrant Visa-holders (SIVs), and parolee families in accordance with the IRC’s Cooperative Agreement with U.S. Department of State. With assistance from case specialists, they will ensure that each client is provided core services from airport pick-up to 90 days after arrival and that clients are provided referrals to other IRC programming as needed. 


Major Responsibilities:

  • Welcoming assigned clients at airport.
  • Collaborate with clients’ US based ties to coordinate welcoming families. 
  • Providing direct core services as per donor guidelines in the Cooperative Agreements.
      • This includes gathering documents; coordinating medical appointments; scheduling SSA, DSHS, etc. appointments; regular communication with clients to address general resettlement concerns; communicating with entire resettlement team to ensure core services are met
  • Coordinate specialized service provision with other resettlement staff such as housing specialists, cultural orientation providers, job training and employment staff, among others.
  • Using Integra system to record expenditures on behalf of assigned clients
  • Using ETO case management software to write case notes and monitor clients’ progress
  • Provide trauma-informed services to all RP families.
  • Attend team and office meetings, participate in collective team and office efforts, comply with all IRC and local office policies and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant is preferred
  • In lieu of lived experience, experience working with refugees and/or immigrants; cross-cultural or overseas experience accepted
  • English proficiency, both spoken and written, and professional proficiency in relevant languages (e.g. Dari, Pashto, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Tigrinya, Arabic, Ukrainian, Russian) preferred
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance and ability to travel regularly






Preferred experience & skills:

  • 2+ years of experience providing case management, especially to newcomers to the United States
  • Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic team structure
  • General understanding of challenges faced by refugees in the United States
  • Knowledge of federal, state, municipal public benefits, and application procedures
  • Familiarity with electronic client management platforms
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Box, PowerBI
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels



Working Environment:  Standard, professional office environment; in-person and remote work required, including work in with clients in the community. Applicant must have access to a reliable, private vehicle and insurance that can be used for work. Mileage used for work will be reimbursed.
