We are looking for an engaged Monitoring and Evaluation Officer who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.

 

The Scope

To support the implementation of FSC monitoring and evaluation system to ensure key data and analytics are used to learn about our impacts and improve the FSC system.

 

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • To contribute to implementing outcome-oriented FSC standards by:
  • Defining data to be collected.
  • Closely collaborating with the Technology and Information Unit to adapt the digital reporting for FSC certified operations.
  • To support the implementation of an effective monitoring and evaluation system by:
  • Designing, conducting and coordinating analytics to monitor the reach, performances and outcomes of FSC certification.
  • Searching for new data sources and analytical methods expanding the analytical capabilities of FSC impacts and performance.
  • Disseminating results through the development and maintenance of reporting dashboards.
  • Supporting the management of external independent impact evaluations.
  • To support monitoring and learning activities for the FSC Global Strategy (such as the development of progress indicators, data collection, data quality check, development of data reporting dashboards).
  • To support activities ensuring compliance with ISEAL codes of practice.
  • Any other task as assigned by the formal supervisor and project work as assigned according to special organizational needs.

 

Qualification, Experience and Skills

  • Education and Training:
    • M.Sc. degree in a relevant field is a must, e.g. forestry, ecology, environmental studies, etc.
    • PhD degree in a relevant field is a strong asset.
  • Working Experience, Style and Skills:
    • At least 2 years of professional experience in forest management, monitoring and evaluation, academia, standard development or certification scheme.
    • Experience with the design of monitoring objectives, management of datasets and analytics and interpretation of data related to sustainability issues.
    • Knowledge and experience with certification scheme is an asset.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong data and analytical skills.
    • Working knowledge of common GIS and remote sensing techniques needed to monitor forests and interpret associated results.
    • Knowledge of statistical tests and concepts and experience with software.
    • Ability to perform well while handling simultaneously a number of functions.
    • Solutions and service-oriented attitude to work.
    • Proven ability to plan and organize work.
    • Project management skills (Agile project management experience is a plus).
    • A very strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
  • Languages and Communication Skills:
    • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
    • Spanish and French are desired.
    • Ability to constructively exchange on contentious topics.
    • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Computer Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with:
    • Excellent skills in the use of/experience with standard software packages (MS Office, especially MS excel).
    • Good skills in using Tableau or similar data management and visualization software.
    • Database management skills is an asset.

 

Terms and Conditions

  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Duration of Employment: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance).
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
