We are looking for an engaged Policy Officer (Chain of Custody and Controlled Wood) who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.

The Scope

To support the development, maintenance and consistent implementation of FSC requirements, mainly in the area of Chain of Custody and Controlled Wood.

 

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Supporting activities related to the development, maintenance, consistent implementation, review and revision of FSC certification and accreditation requirements, including, for example:
    • Editorial reviewing of such requirements.
    • Researching of technical issues to be covered by such requirements.
    • Coordinating working groups and other technical meetings.
    • Coordination and monitoring of pilot, field and desk tests.
    • Project administration.
  • Supporting the implementation of FSC requirements (e.g. supporting administration and handling of information requests from stakeholders).
  • Supporting administration and handling of interpretation requests related to FSC requirements.
  • Supporting communication and education activities, including, for example:
    • The development of communications, guidance and training materials related to FSC requirements.
    • The management of website content and related communications.
  • Building and maintaining effective contacts and good relations with stakeholders affected by relevant FSC requirements.
  • Participate in the applicable FSC internal competence programs.
  • Any other task as assigned by the formal supervisor and project work as assigned according to special organizational needs.

 

Qualification, Experience and Skills

  • Working Education and Training:
    • University degree or technical college degree in a relevant field, for example, forestry, forest policy, wood technology, environmental policy or similar.
    • Master's level education is beneficial.
    • Training in FSC certification, project management, commu¬nications, and/or auditing are assets.
       
  • Working Experience, Style and Skills:
    • At least 2 years of professional experience in one or more of the following: multi-stakeholder standards development processes; certification and auditing, the forest sector; corporate environmental and social responsibility programs, environmental impact assessments.
    • Good time management skills: Ability to perform well while handling simultaneously several ongoing projects.
    • Good sense for diligence and accuracy.
    • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Solution and service-oriented attitude to work.
    • Experience in drafting, reviewing and/or editing technical documents is an asset.
  • Languages:
    • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
    • Spanish and French are desired.
       
  • Computer Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with:
    • Standard software packages (MS Office).]
    • Content Management Systems is a plus.
       
  • Communication Skills:
    • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.

Terms and Conditions

  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Duration of Employment: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance).
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
