Enhanced Services for Asylees and Vulnerable Non-Citizens Casework Intern

TITLE: ESAVN casework Intern (1 intern)
LOCATION: Part time remote, part time in person; City Heights office as needed
START DATE: May 2023
DURATION: 4 months starting; 15-30 hours per week

Important Note: This is an unpaid internship.

BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities.

SCOPE OF ENHANCED SERVICES FOR ASYLEES AND VULNERABLE NONCITIZENS PROGRAM INTERN WORK: In this internship, students will have the opportunity to contribute to Asylees and Vulnerable Noncitizens (Human Trafficking and Domestic violence survivors) to access to services through community engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Based on intern skills and experience, responsibilities may include a combination of program support, administrative/data support, and direct service:

· Support case management for asylees and vulnerable noncitizens (human trafficking and domestic violence survivors)
· Drive and accompany clients to appointments such as health check-ups, legal consults, school enrollments, etc.
· Accompany clients on bus/metro trips to help them learn routes on the San Diego public transit system
· Conduct outreach, including development of materials and presentations
· Network for and develop community partnerships and collaborations
· Help clients enroll in services, in-person or remotely
· Develop guides and learning materials for client use (examples: healthcare navigation, food banks, local community guides, etc.)
· Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of the ESAVN program.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
· Interns will gain exposure to case management for Asylees and Vulnerable Noncitizens (human trafficking and domestic violence survivors.)
· Interns will learn about immigration processes, such as: Asylum approvals, “U visa”, “T” visa” applications; and social services/ resources available for asylees and vulnerable noncitizens (human trafficking and domestic violence survivors)
· Interns will expand their experience providing culturally humble services and resources
· Interns will learn to facilitate workshops and programs for clients
· Interns will gain familiarity in cross-cultural communication
