Context
SDG 3 aims to contribute towards good healthy and well being of the global population by 2030. However, Zimbabwe is among the top country in the world with highest early child marriage prevalence hence compromising the health and well being of young girls. The young girls who are married young are at risk of contracting HIV and AIDS, STIs and unwanted pregnancy. Furthermore these young girls are not yet emotionally and physically prepared to give birth and or to raise a family. Often times they are forced to drop out of school. The drivers of child marriages in Zimbabwe include poverty, traditional and religious practices, child sexual abuse among other cases. In 2022 we witnessed a case where a 9 month year old child was impregnated and gave birth and this was followed up with more cases of children aged between 8 and 14 being sexually abused and impregnated. Parents are also at the forefront of marrying off their daughter as easy escape route from poverty or a way to reduce mouth to feed in their households not knowing that they are robbing their children of a better future. This assignment will help through amplifying our collective voices and actions to end early child marriages er in Zimbabwe and elsewhere in the world. This will be achieved through sharing the animated video on ending child marriage on popular social media platforms such as YouTube and twitter. profiling and highlighting the plight of vulnerable populations using social media. The Online Volunteers will help to design and create a short video for posting on Simuka Africa Youth Association social media pages.
