Job Title: Nutrition Content Writer

Type of Contract: International Consultancy – REG CST Level II

Division: Nutrition Outreach and Advocacy, Nutrition

Duty Station (City, Country): HQ, Rome Italy

Duration: 11 months (April 2023 – March 2024)

 

 

 

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

 

The current prevalence of malnutrition in children is alarming. Over 50 million children suffer from acute malnutrition and over 150 million suffer from stunting. Maternal and child undernutrition is the underlying cause of approximately 45% of all mortality in children under 5.  Not only does undernutrition levels remain stubbornly high, but numbers of overweight persons are growing exponentially, even in poor countries. 

 

As the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against hunger and malnutrition, the World Food Programme (WFP) is adapting to meet the current and emerging global nutrition challenges. This includes enhancing organisational capacity to reach vulnerable populations affected by acute malnutrition, as well as expanding our portfolio to find lasting solutions for populations affected by poor diets and chronic malnutrition.

 

The purpose of the assignment is to support WFP nutrition to undertake writing projects, edit and update materials to the highest standards and/or support the ongoing work of the Nutrition Advocacy and Outreach (NOA) Team as required.

 

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Working closely with the various Nutrition units and under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Advocacy and Outreach Team Lead, the candidate will perform the following duties:

 

  1. Project manage all major WFP external publications and webpages on nutrition, including but not limited to, flagship reports;
  2. Management of report research and the compiling of relevant information and data, in close collaboration with the knowledge management and technical teams;
  3. Responsible for writing highest-standard copy for nutrition (including reports, fact sheets and web content) and for meticulous fact-checking;
  4. Increase the use of story-telling for external and internal use;
  5. Strengthen writing and story-telling capacity of colleagues in the Division;
  6. Define and produce content outlines and concept notes;
  7. Accountable for editing copy swiftly and with a high level of accuracy.
  8. Perform other related duties, as required.

 

 

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT

 

  • Fully delivered publications/reports/editorial content to the highest standards for a variety of key audiences including, but not limited to, WFP donors and other key stakeholders.

 

 

 QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 

Education:

Advanced University degree in English, English Literature, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, International Relations or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

 

Experience:

At least 6 years of relevant professional experience with developing, writing and producing editorial reports, policy documents, copy and corporate communications products on the topic of nutrition and food security to engage various audiences, with a special focus on donors. 

 

 

Knowledge & Skills:

 

Superb writing and editing skills, including a strong understanding of storytelling as well as a strong background in editorial work

Close attention to details

Ability to manage time, prioritize (according to organizational priorities)

 

Languages:

Fluency in English required; Knowledge of a second UN language would be an asset;
