Terms of Reference

Background information/Organizational Context

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides international protection under the auspices of the United Nations, to refugees and other persons of concern, including stateless and internally displaced persons. UNHCR follows policy directives from the General Assembly or the Economic and Social Council.

To respond to the Ukraine crisis, a new Cash Hub was established by the regional bureau of Europe, DRS and DFAM to manage and oversee the associated financial transactional flows and their integration of the cash assistance financial delivery and financial reporting. The Cash Hub is embedded in the Divisions, with adequate expertise, ensuring that adequate procedures are in place and ensure fully integrated CBI (Cash-Based Intervention) delivery.

The Team that the Intern will be working within is DFAM Treasury/Cash Hub, who supports UNHCR operations in ensuring adequate financial control and risk monitoring are in place in the “end-to-end” process of monetary value transfer to Persons of Concern.

This Intern will be working with the Senior Treasury/Finance Officers at Treasury and Cash Service, and other colleagues in HQ Cash Hub.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Supporting CashHub in updating data/payment status in CashAssist, UNHCR cash assistance management system
• Uploading payment lists to Financial Service provider’s systems
• Assisting in CBI bank account reconciliation
• Conducting detailed reconciliations between FSP’s reports and UNHCR payment files

Minimum qualifications required

• Computer and IT literacy to be able to work with MS Excel, Word
• Basic knowledge of finance, accounting and data analytics
• Proficiency in English, including oral and written communication skills

Eligibility

To be considered for an internship, candidates must:

• be a recent graduate* or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO;
• have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to, or of interest to, the work of the organization; and
• not have immediate relatives (father, mother, brother, or sister) working for UNHCR as a staff member on any contract type or as an affiliate at the time of application.

*Recent graduates are considered to be candidates who completed their studies within two years of applying for an internship with UNHCR.

Conditions

The internship is for a duration of six months and will begin in 01 May 2023. It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 9.00 am to 6:00 pm Mondays to Fridays (40 hours per week)

Allowance

Interns will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
