Mission and objectives

The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established on 9 August 1973 pursuant to Economic and Social Council’s resolution 1818 (LV). Its purpose was to stimulate economic activity in member countries, strengthen cooperation between them promote development. ESCWA's objectives are to support economic and social development in member countries, to promote interaction and cooperation between member countries, to encourage the exchange of experience, best practice and lessons learned, to achieve regional integration and ensure interaction between Western Asia and other regions, and to raise global awareness of the circumstances and needs of member countries. ESCWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies for member countries, a platform for congress and coordination, a home for expertise and knowledge, and an information observatory. ESCWA activities are coordinated with the divisions and main offices of the Headquarters of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and its subsidiary bodies, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Context

The UN Volunteer is responsible to deliver media outputs in a timely manner, manage social media accounts, and provide excellent Support to the media team.

Task description

Under the supervision of the Secretary of the Commission, the UN Volunteer Youth is responsible to perform the following tasks: • Provide assistance to cover in-house events and meetings: • Compile summaries of content in a format that is tailored to external audiences; • Gather quotes from speakers; • Take photographs when needed; • Assist in capturing short video messages from experts that highlight key messages; • Support the drafting of press releases and/or new stories based on collected content; • Support the media monitoring of local and regional news, and compile press clippings on ESCWA; • Support the drafting of press releases and/or new stories based on collected content; • Support efforts to archive raw materials post-production and to archive the unit productions as a whole. • Provide assistance to the social media team: • Follow up on upcoming in-house events and meetings, liaise with divisions when information is missing; • Support in maintaining a schedule of upcoming international days and global campaigns that should be reflected on ESCWA platforms; • Prepare content in English and Arabic; • Research appropriate visuals to be included with posts, editing them to the correct format when necessary. • Prepare wrap-up reports following each event, monthly and quarterly. • Perform other duties as assigned.
