Mission and objectives

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s new Strategic Plan (2022-2025), focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning, and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff/volunteers, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction. UNFPA Cambodia’s 6th Country Programme (CP) 2019 – 2023 has three outcomes (i) sexual and reproductive health and rights; (ii) adolescents and youth; and (iii) population dynamics and data, with gender as a cross-cutting programmatic focus. The 6th UNFPA country programme signals a transition towards upstream policy support to the Royal Government of Cambodia and would therefore have more dedicated resources and capacities to provide strategic guidance and analysis in its respective outcome areas.

Context

UNFPA provides a work environment that reflects the values of gender equality, teamwork, embracing diversity in all its forms, integrity and a healthy balance of work and life. We are committed to maintaining our balanced gender distribution and therefore encourage women and men equally. UNFPA promotes equal opportunities for all. UNFPA Cambodia works in systems strengthening of survivor of violence services and support through multi-sectoral response development. However, addressing the harmful social norms that perpetuate violence is needed as part of addressing the root causes of violence. This research will compile what we know about harmful social norms that contribute to GBV in Cambodia. This will help UNFPA Cambodia look at information gaps and help determine the path forward to addressing harmful social norms related to GBV. Through this assignment, the online Volunteer will support the Gender Programme under the direct supervision of the Cambodia Representative and the Gender Programme Analyst (Gender/R&H). The volunteer will do the desk review related studies on gender norm that resulting in gender-based violence, then make an annotated bibliography. The result of this assignment will contribute to the SDG 5.

Task description

We are looking for one Online Volunteer who has experience in research with gender / gender based violence. The volunteer will undertake a landscape analysis of all research undertaken in Cambodia related to harmful social norms that fuel gender based violence. The online volunteer will then compile all of the research into an annotated bibliography (Note: An annotated bibliography is a bibliography that gives a summary of each of the entries. The purpose of annotations is to provide the reader with a summary and an evaluation of each source). The volunteer requires excellent writing and analysis skills. The task will include the following responsibilities: - Discuss and determine parameters for the research – using agreed definitions of harmful social norms related to gender based violence. - Identify and gather sources (many sources will be provided to the online volunteer) - Develop an annotated bibliography which includes an analysis of each source of data - Develop a short overview report on the findings The average estimated workload is expected to include roughly reviewing 15-20 documents (these can include articles, studies etc.) over the course of the entire duration. This online collaboration would provide opportunity for the selected online volunteer to build professional network and take part in UNFPA's gender-related works. Upon completion, and at the end of the assignment, the online volunteer will be awarded with certificate from the UNV.
