Project Assistant - Agribusiness

 

Nepal’s terai flood plain is hard hit by recurrent climate emergencies and a humanitarian crisis induced by returning economically displaced migrant workers. The project, titled ‘Building Climate Resilience and Reintegrating Economically Displaced Workers through Climate Smart Agriculture in the Terai Flood Plain, Nepal (2022-2025)’ - hereafter KOICA- GGGI CSA project -  supports widespread adoption of climate smart agriculture to reduce vulnerability and improve food and job security, especially for women, youth, and returned migrant workers in Madhesh Province. It will do this by a) improving emergency management in the agriculture sector to protect lives and livelihoods; b) strengthening resilient agriculture planning and implementation; and c) building and financing climate smart agriculture businesses for job creation and long-term resilient green growth.   

 

The purpose of this position is to support programme teams in preparing project/programme communication briefs, support data analysis/recording, and grant management from proposal development to final reporting. She/He could also support in drafting of case studies along with monitoring and evaluation of the programme. The Project Assistant – Agribusiness will contribute to ensure that projects documentation captures evidence of the impact, outcomes, outputs and activities of the projects. The Project Assistant – Agribusiness will work closely with GGGI under the leadership and guidance of the Senior Project Coordination Officer, the Senior Agriculture Officer (KMCO) and the Agri-business Associate to ensure that the outputs delivered are in line with project KPIs.

 

PURPOSE

The role of the Project Assistant - Agribusiness is to ensure Terai Agribusiness and Enterprise Challenge Fund (TAECF) applicants to meet project financial requirements. . She/He will support process integrity in project operation and specific project/output delivery, fully comply with established institutional policies, standards and donor requirements across budget execution, procurement and other operational functions.

  • Support the preparation of the concept notes, proposals, stakeholder analysis and logical frameworks as an integral part of any new programme planning process in coordination with GGGI HQ and GGGI Nepal Country Office in Kathmandu
  • Support the monitoring of approved project which includes financial progress, human resources mobilization and reporting requirements.
  • Support in highlighting the requirements of RFA (Request for Application) /RFP (Request for Proposal) and in publishing the same under challenge fund.
  • Support Project Implementation Team in consolidating and reviewing grantee’s reporting and due diligence process.
  • Support monitoring of selected grantees in budget management to ensure that grantee resources are optimally allocated and utilized under the guidance of the the guidance of the Senior Project Coordination Officer and the Agribusiness Associate.
  • Updating the project folders with templates, guidelines and ensure the respect of deadlines and the compliance with donors' guidelines and reporting requirements.
  • Support project documentation and preparation and execution of relative eventsAny other duties assigned by the Senior Project Coordination Officer and the Agri-Business Associate.
  • Support content development for press release, newletters, and/or web and social media ports in line with the guideline of GGGI Communications & Knowledge Sharing Unit in HQ

 

ENGAGEMENT
  • Advise the team on the procedures, policies, and tools of all financial transactions for project/output delivery
  • Identify issues and risks that will affect consistent program and delivery and report to the manager
  • Identify issues and advise project staff on remedial measures in order to maintain integrity of delivery
  • Communicate program needs to service providers/suppliers and ensure that services/products are delivered in line with established agreements.

 

DELIVERY
  • Review detailed budget execution plans and schedules of 112 grants during the project period
  • Review financial plans and expenditure procedures in line with yearly work programs and budget lines
  • Support grantees in implementing their business plan including staff hiring plan and manage onboarding procedures based on approved headcount
  • Consolidated financial documentation for all the approved grants and ensure accuracy of project financial reporting.

 

REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in economics, business management, business administration , agriculture or related field of study required
  • Minimum 1 years of professional work experience in international development with good knowledge of proposal development and project cycle.
  • Advanced technical knowledge in several of the following areas: project financial management, database management, information technology systems, knowledge management/communications welcome
  • Work experience working with an international organization, and/or in an English-speaking work environment will be an important advantage.
  • Advanced ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English and Nepali required.
FUNCTIONAL
  • Can demonstrate experience in at least 3 of the following areas: accounting, grant management, procurement, database management, information technology systems, knowledge-management/communications
  • Experience in working with federal, provincial and local government in Nepal.  
  • Experience in communications is an clear advantage. 
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills, time management, multi-tasking

  • GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance.
