BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION

 

WFP Security identifies, assesses, and manages all security risks that affect personnel, assets or programme delivery. As a key actor in the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS), we leverage partnerships, digital innovation, and local resources within a clear framework of accountability.

 

The Security Division is seeking to recruit an intern to support the Policy Section. The objective of the Security Division’s internship program is to develop and prepare young talent by providing opportunities for the candidates to gain work experience (remotely), expand knowledge, refine career goals, and build professional networks, including mentors and valuable contacts. The interns will learn to work in a dynamic team supporting the division in policy related matters.

 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

Duty Station: Remote for HQ Rome, Italy

Duration: 8 months

Expected Start Date: ASAP

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Security Division invites qualified candidates to apply for the internship program. This opportunity is available in the Division's Policy and Enabling Services Section,.

 

The intern will perform the following duties:

Conduct research as required for the policy review and development

Support the review of official documents, guidelines, concepts

Attend virtually meetings and keep record of key points discussed.

Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and background documents

Support other tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

 

To qualify for an internship with the World Food Programme (WFP), the applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university;
  2. University course attendance in the past 12 months
  3. Be computer literate in standard software applications
  4. Excellent command of English; Working knowledge of a second UN language would be an asset.

 

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

  1. Understand WFP and the contribution we make to saving lives and changing lives.
  2. Understand the contribution of Security Division to achieving that mandate through its different functions of operations, policy and enabling and the front office.
  3. Demonstrate experience working in teams, drafting, and reviewing communication documents.
  4. Learnt and been immersed in the work environment and demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
