Background:

NRC has been present in Nigeria since 2015 and has been working to help displacement-affected communities meet their basic needs, improve their livelihoods, access essential services, and enhance their resilience to future shocks through our six core competencies: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Shelter, Education, Information-Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA), Livelihoods and Food Security (LFS), Camp Management, and Protection from Violence. NRC provides immediate assistance during the onset of emergencies through the rapid response mechanism (RRM). With a workforce of 370 staff and presence in key locations such as Maiduguri (in Borno State), Yola (in Adamawa state) and Jos (in Plateau state), NRC is able to respond to the needs of those affected by the conflict across North-East, and North Central Nigeria. 

In Plateau State, NRC has been present since 2021 and runs operations in the Bassa, Bokkos, Riyom, Mangu, Wase, Shendam Local Government Areas (LGAs) implementing Education, Food Security and Information, Counselling, and Legal Assistance (ICLA) activities. 

The Area Office is implementing an innovative programme on conflict resolution, peace education, conflict management, access to housing, property and land rights while mainstreaming livelihood support and education. To that end, the Area Office in Plateau is recruiting a Programme Manager to support the implementation.


Role and responsibilities

  • Line management for CC (core competencies) project Coordinators in the area;
  • Compliance and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures;
  • Responsible for grant opening meetings and grant closing meetings at area level;
  • Provide area-specific input relevant for CC strategies;
  • Ensure compliance to donor standards, grant management and regular reporting to the donor in the area;
  • Identify funding opportunities and develop an area funding strategy along with forecasts for the area;
  • Responsible for grant opening meetings and grant closing meetings at area level;
  • Ensure compliance with contractual commitments, extract and implement key learnings from project implementation in the area;
  • Ensure capacity building of all technical staff;
  • Contribute to the development of area and CC strategies, initiate and participate in the development of relevant CCs projects.

Professional competencies

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience from a management position in a humanitarian/ recovery context;
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts;
  • Core competency expertise on distribution/ cash and voucher;
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal; 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience from a senior-level project implementation position in a humanitarian/recovery context (preferred).
  • Knowledge of the context in Plateau State
  • Example: Experience from advocacy work, conflict resolution
