Mission and objectives

UNDP's mandate is to end poverty, build democratic governance, rule of law, and inclusive institutions. We advocate for change, and connect countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP's overall goal is to contribute to sustainable human development. UNDP has four focus areas in its mandate: poverty reduction, democratic governance, environment and energy, and crisis prevention and recovery

Context

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) has funded two projects including “ Social Protection for Enhanced Social Cohesion in Vulnerable Communities in Yemen project “ and “Vocational and Business Skills Training and Support Project Phase II”. - Vocational and Business Skills Training and Support Project The overall objective of the project is to empower rural young men and women with relevant skills and to enhance their employability and productive engagement in economic and local recovery activities. The project’s specific objectives are A) To build market-drive vocational and technical skills of conflict-affected young men and women in targeted districts. B) To enhance the business and entrepreneurial skills of youth that have been provided with vocational and technical skills training. C)To support value chain development in highly promising business areas. These efforts contribute to and complement efforts by other UNDP projects, and humanitarian and development actors in Yemen in favour of economic recovery and livelihood restoration which will lead to improved well-being and resilience among Yemenis. - Social Protection to Provide Social Cohesion of Yemeni Community Project: The overall goal of the proposed “Social Protection for Enhanced Social Cohesion in Vulnerable Communities in Yemen Project” is to contribute to enhanced social cohesion and increased resilience to shocks, risks, and conflict in and around targeted communities in Yemen . This should be achieved through a set of capacity-building activities and trainings and through the restoration and stabilization of the livelihoods of targeted vulnerable Yemenis in 6 districts with the provision of vocational skills training and technical support for MSMEs. The project will contribute to the restoration of the livelihoods of vulnerable conflict-affected people (IDPs, marginalized, PWDs, women and youth) through a vocational and life-skills training programme.
