The Social Media / Innovations Officer will support the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, updating and evaluation of the digital communication strategy. The role will have a focus on using data-driven and innovative strategies to guide content planning and production, and effectively increase reach, following, engagement and other KPIs with the aim of promoting the rights of children and women, mobilising public support for UNICEF’s work in Ukraine, and enhancing UNICEF’s credibility and brand on UNICEF Ukraine digital channels as part of the overall communication and advocacy strategy of the UNICEF Ukraine Country Office.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Digital Communication Specialist, the Social Media / Innovations Officer will support the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, updating and evaluation of the digital communication strategy. The role will have a focus on using data-driven and innovative strategies to guide content planning and production, and effectively increase reach, following, engagement and other KPIs with the aim of promoting the rights of children and women, mobilising public support for UNICEF’s work in Ukraine, and enhancing UNICEF’s credibility and brand on UNICEF Ukraine digital channels as part of the overall communication and advocacy strategy of the UNICEF Ukraine Country Office.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES, DUTIES & TASKS:

Digital Communication Strategy

  • Work with the digital team to support the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, updating and evaluation of the digital communication strategy
  • Ensure that the digital communication strategy is agile and responsive to digital marketing trends, forecasts and outlooks through regular review, evaluation and updates

Data-driven and innovative strategies

  • Monitor digital marketing updates, trends, outlooks and forecasts, and ensure that actionable recommendations are applied to content, channel management and audience engagement strategies  
  • Identify, plan and implement innovative and cost-effective tactics and strategies for content, channel management and audience engagement, with the aim of optimization to improve and achieve KPIs. This includes A/B testing, paid marketing, and other data-driven tactics.  
  • Identify areas of growth and opportunities on existing, new or emerging digital channels and platforms to increase reach, following, engagement and other digital KPIs
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners for collaborations and innovative tactics to achieve communication objectives for campaigns and other key moments  
  • Compilation and analysis of user and channel data for audience research
  • Robust analytics to monitor performance and key metrics on all digital channels, including effective and timely monitoring and reporting of KPIs
  • Robust social listening to identify key trends, conversations, opportunities for audience engagement and channel growth, and reputational risks, with actionable recommendations 

Digital content creation

  • Ensure continuous improvement of content strategies and creatives based on data-driven insights and actionable, practical recommendations
  • Support content planning and production, including leading planning and production for new content formats and styles, and agile/responsive content that is of high quality and complies with UNICEF’s brand and communication guidelines

Community management and channel management

  • Oversight of comments management, moderation and interaction with audiences across UNICEF Ukraine digital channels, including effective monitoring and management of comments, responses, tags, and private messages
  • Engage and build relationships with online audiences through timely and appropriate responses in compliance with organizational and brand guidelines
  • Ensure that effective moderation, escalation and referral procedures and systems are in place, including addressing inappropriate or sensitive comments and messages to maintain respect, safety and UNICEF guidelines on digital channels
  • Liaise with focal points to address inquiries specific to their areas of responsibilities and technical expertise
  • Use analysis of community management data and insights to improve audience engagement strategies
  • Take on channel management, content publishing, and focal point duties as assigned, working with the digital team to ensure integrated implementation of the digital communication strategy and achievement of channel KPIs

Monitoring, evaluation and reporting

  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating the digital channels and KPIs
  • Provide timely regular and on-demand reports for KPIs, campaigns, key moments, thematic priorities, specific channels, channels and audiences based on need, with clear and actionable insights based on data and analysis

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education

  • University degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or another related field

Work experience

  • At least one year of professional experience in digital marketing, digital communications or social media marketing in an international organization, digital agency or large corporation or brand is required

Language Proficiency

  • Fluency in English and Ukrainian is required. Fluency in another UN language is an advantage.

Technical knowledge

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing data-driven and innovative tactics, strategies, campaigns and projects that drive results
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in digital marketing analytics and data analysis. Data management and data visualization skills an advantage.
  • Experience in Drupal or other website content management systems
  • Experience in native and third-party social media management, social listening, and analytics tools such as Meta Business Manager, Google Analytics, HootSuite and other tools
  • Experience in managing paid campaigns and using Google Ad Manager and Meta Business Manager to implement, monitor and optimize campaigns 
  • Knowledge of current and emerging digital marketing trends and forecasts
  • Technical competence in managing content production for various formats, audiences and channels
  • Good understanding of children’s rights, world affairs, current events, international development, and humanitarian issues
  • Good social media copywriting skills in English and Ukrainian
