Job Overview/Summary:  The Education & Learning Manager oversees education and learning programs for children, youth and adults served by the IRC’s Dallas office. S/he ensures effective communication between and across departments within IRC and with local community partners and provides support and leadership to a small team, making sure they have the resources and support needed to implement impactful programming. S/he builds and sustains key partnerships to enhance access to educational services for refugee and immigrant families.


Major Responsibilities:

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND SERVICE DELIVERY

  • Ensure IRC’s education and learning programs are aligned with the IRC2020 Strategy; develop and implement monitoring and evaluation tools aligned with IRC’s Outcomes and Evidence Framework.
  • Supervise adult education programming, including: Cultural Orientation, Digital Literacy and Inclusion, and Job Readiness Training.
  • Supervise Refugee Youth Mentorship Program, which provides school-aged refugee youth and their families with the academic and socio-emotional support necessary for a successful adjustment and transition to school.  
  • Coordinate with resettlement and economic empowerment teams to support appropriate case coordination for clients receiving education and learning services.
  • Oversee strategic development and design of programs to support the educational and emotional well-being of refugee youth.
  • Identify and engage with relevant community partners and universities to support IRC’s education and learning programs.
  • Work with Deputy Director and development team to expand funding for education and learning programs.
  • Ensure quality in data collection and service documentation.
  • Assist with preparation of relevant funder reports and grant proposals.


STAFF AND VOLUNTEER SUPERVISION

  • Participate in IRC network-wide initiatives to understand and share best-practices relating to education and learning
  • Recruit, train, orient, monitor, and evaluate staff performance and ensure staff objectives are met.
  • Orient, train and supervise volunteers and interns to support education and learning programs for youth and adults, in coordination with direct reports.
  • Develop position descriptions and scopes of work for future interns and volunteers; train and supervise said interns and volunteers in coordination with direct service staff.
  • Represent IRC in public, professional and governmental forums.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:


Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in education, social work or a relevant field desired.


Work Experience:

  • Minimum of three years education experience (with youth and/or adults) required, preferably with English language learners
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience, preferably in a non-profit or community-based setting
  • Experience working with learners from a variety of cultural and linguistic groups highly desired
  • Experience in public education setting highly preferred
  • Experience with refugee and/or immigrant populations highly preferred
  • Experience designing student-centered, thematic-based curriculum and developing monitoring and evaluation systems highly desired


Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Solid diplomacy, relationship building and networking skills; ability to effectively manage internal and external relationships, including community stakeholders and donors
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work successfully in cross-cultural environment
  • Highly organized, responsible and flexible; ability to maintain responsibility for multiple tasks in the context of a diverse, fast-paced work environment and maintain composure under pressure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook; ability to use the internet and other resources for research and problem-solving purposes


Language Skills: Ability to read, write and speak English fluently is required. Fluency in one of the languages of populations served is preferred (Arabic, Persian, Pashto, French, Kiswahili, Haitian Creole, Spanish)


Working Environment:  Standard office work environment. Some field work required (10% of time), including outreach and communication with local schools and networking opportunities with community based organizations.
