Mission and objectives
Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leadingUN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental andnon-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for thebenefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context
iDiaspora.org, is a platform that has been recognized by many governments as a central tool to encourage networking and peer learning among diaspora organizations and transnational communities as well as a repository of best practices in effective diaspora engagement in relevant migration areas, such as climate change and the environment, peace and security, counter-trafficking and counter smuggling, etc. Through this assignment, we are seeking the support of online volunteers in cleaning and standardizing existing database to map diaspora organisations to iDiaspora's interactive map. The volunteer’s support will be of great contribution to the goal of mapping diaspora organizations globally and will help to create an accessible and user-friendly directory of diaspora organizations and the services they provide their respective communities.
Task description
The selected online volunteer will standardize and clean existing database to map diaspora organizations to iDiaspora’s interactive map. The task involves homologating variables for each column of the database (capital letters, similar names, accents, etc.) and doing the correction of geographic coordinates. This opportunity will allow interested online volunteers to get involved in IOM's ongoing work and build network within the UN system. At the end of the assignment, the online volunteer will be awarded with certificate from UNV.
