By placing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to reduction of inequalities at the heart of our work, we lead the global response to AIDS by: (i) maximizing equitable and equal access to HIV services, (ii) breaking down barriers to achieving HIV outcomes, and (iii) integrating efficient HIV responses into wider health and protection systems.

MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The UNAIDS HIV Prevention Team contributes to the Global Science Systems and Services Practice at UNAIDS by promoting the use of innovation for prevention, treatment and pediatrics, which covers the HIV treatment-prevention continuum and focuses on reaching the 95-95-95 target, 95% combination prevention targets and leaving no one behind. The team provides strategic leadership and guidance on effective approaches to achieve the global HIV prevention targets, develops and promotes strategies, policies and programmatic approaches to sustainably reduce new infections in both high and low-prevalence countries, generates and disseminates strategic information and prevention program guidance to regions and countries; champions the development and implementation of state-of-the-art behavioral, biomedical and structural prevention methods; strengthens linkages between prevention and treatment, gender and human rights initiatives and programs; and establishes and strengthens partnerships and alliances for prevention. The Prevention Team also functions as the Secretariat of the Global HIV Prevention Coalition (GPC) and supports and tracks progress against the milestones of the Global HIV Prevention Roadmap 2025.

Under the joint supervision of the Head of Programme Innovation for Prevention Treatment and Pediatrics, UNAIDS Geneva, and the Unit head, HIV Testing Prevention and Populations (HSS), WHO Geneva, and in close collaboration with other members of the teams and departments, the incumbent will act as the focal point for the GPC and provide liaison and linkages between global and country teams of UNAIDS and WHO.

The incumbent will have the following key responsibilities:

• Coordinate between key partners of the Global HIV Prevention Coalition and other teams within WHO and UNAIDS to ensure the complementarity of activities within the GPC.

• Effectively communicate the objectives of the GPC, global HIV prevention targets, and the vision of a people-centered HIV prevention response to end inequalities and end AIDS.

• Build and maintain strong working relationships between the country, regional, and HQ team members working on the HIV prevention agenda.

• Convene regular meetings between UNAIDS GPC Secretariat and WHO HIV prevention teams, and assure agreed to follow-up actions.

• Provide oversight and review of progress in the implementation of national HIV Prevention Roadmaps identifying areas for collaboration between WHO and UNAIDS and other in-country partners.

• Facilitate information sharing and the sharing of available technical resources to support building the capacity of regional and country partners to implement their HIV Prevention Roadmap and action plans.

• Constantly assemble and catalog technical issues for which guidance at the country level is required or lacking and assist in the development and/or dissemination of guidance on specific technical areas.

• Act as UNAIDS focal point (liaising with WHO teams) for work on ARV-based prevention, to incorporate TasP, PEP and PrEP across specific target populations and within broader HIV prevention packages.
