UNICEF Lebanon is looking for a WASH Specialist to support the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the WASH programme within the country programme, with a particular focus on WASH services to the most vulnerable, including in humanitarian settings.

The WASH Specialist reports to the Chief of WASH (Level 5) for guidance and general supervision. The Specialist supports the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH programme within the country programme, with a particular focus on WASH services to the most vulnerable, including in humanitarian settings. The Specialist provides technical guidance and support throughout the programming processes, to facilitate the administration and achievement of the WASH-related output results in the country programme.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering or another relevant technical field.

  • Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset.

  • Essential: A minimum of five years of professional experience in WASH-related programmes, including engagement with public water and wastewater utilities and/or municipal systems is required. Minimum of one year experience in provision of WASH services in humanitarian setting is required.

  • Desirable: Experience in Middle Eastern countries is an asset. Experience of promoting innovative approaches to water supply and wastewater treatment is an asset. Experience in responding to water-related disease outbreaks is an asset.

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Technical Requirements:

  1. Water supply and sanitation services through municipal and/or public utilities
  2. Water supply and sanitation options in humanitarian camp settings
  3. Water quality monitoring
  4. WASH-in-Schools and Health Centres
  5. Handwashing with soap and Menstrual hygiene management
  6. National government WASH policies, plans and strategies
  7. Analysis of national budgets and expenditure for basic WASH, and related advocacy

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments are also subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
