The IRC’s External Relations team is comprised of colleagues and teams delivering marketing, fundraising, brand stewardship, and communications to support this work. As part of External Relations, the Mass Markets USA (MMUSA) program raises $70+ million in unrestricted revenue annually in the U.S. market and plays a strategic role in the creation of IRC’s brand, awareness, and support for its advocacy goals.
MMUSA is seeking a Manager, Supporter Engagement and Retention to inspire, engage, and steward supporters and donors by developing content, creating thoughtful supporter journeys, and supporting overarching mass marketing campaigns.

This exciting position will help us build an extraordinary supporter experience that shows impact, expresses gratitude, and forms a relationship between the supporter, our organization, and the clients we serve. 

Job Overview:

We seek a data-driven and creative storyteller and marketer who is interested in humanitarian causes.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Supporter Engagement and Retention, you will support the execution and optimization of marketing content and campaigns – across MMUSA donor audiences and throughout the donor lifecycle. As a key member of the MMUSA team, you will serve the team to grow and steward donors by providing conversion-inspiring content that has strategic and tactical fundraising goals.

You will develop emotional content that gains attention and conveys need, impact, relevancy, timeliness, and authenticity. And you will help develop and send communications to donors, helping them connect to their impact and encouraging them to continue to help. You are an outstanding writer with a confirmed ability to produce content that sways hearts and minds and encourages people to support our work. 

Major Responsibilities:
Help shape content, stories, and impact reporting that can be delivered to donors
Identify conversion-inspiring and supporter-centric content (for example, photos, videos, case studies)
Develop engaging copy that inspires people to become donors and encourages them to stay with the IRC
Support the integration of content across email, direct mail, SMS, and other communications -- particularly during major fundraising campaigns and emergencies
Develop and write emails (with a particular emphasis on triggered email automations), SMS text messages, and other donor-centric communications, including assets that onboard, retain, and offboard supporters
Be ready to engage supporters in a moment’s notice during rapid response moments and humanitarian emergencies; Support rapid response and emergency campaigns by streamlining content and project leading shared assets 
Use data and analytics to inform content creation, campaign planning, and supporter journeys 
Develop and implement A/B and longitudinal testing plans for content and copy 
Support quality assurance testing to ensure program materials are perfect, including copy, tracking, landing pages, and metadata
Support audience management by building audiences, queries, and segmentation to optimize fundraising results 
Be an IRC brand ambassador, ensuring copy is on-brand, effective, and highlights the dignity and resilience of the people we serve

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred
At least 3 years of professional experience in individual fundraising (nonprofit or digital agency/marketing experience a plus) with increasing revenue responsibility
Copywriting skills, specifically in mass marketing/direct response/individual fundraising, are required
Experience in identifying, shaping, and developing content that is effective for fundraising
Experience in email marketing; Experience using HTML and building emails is a plus
Project management experience in mid to large sized fundraising programs
Outstanding organizational skills in order to work across many contending priorities successfully in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work effectively and adaptively in a highly interdependent team 

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies: 
Proven CRM experience is required; Salesforce experience preferred
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications 
Experience with email marketing and automation platform; Familiarity with digital advertising and direct mail
Familiarity with A/B, multivariant, and long-term testing 
Loves collaboration and brainstorming and can work well with colleagues across the organization
Is passionate about marketing, as well as our cause, and seeks to help transform the lives of people affected by humanitarian crises
Is a creative problem solver who’s able to navigate complexity and ambiguity to get to the heart of and cultivate an outstanding story

Working Environment:
This role is remote full-time with East Coast hours and eligible for U.S. residents only. Applicants have a home or alternate workspace from which they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours. Some travel (once every 2-3 months) is required to meet at off-site retreats and other meetings.

Compensation:
Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
